Update from MPD:
“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, March 1, 2020, in the 600 block of S Street, Northwest.
At approximately 2:08 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead. Additionally, officers located a second juvenile male victim in the 600 block of Rhode Island Avenue, Northwest, suffering from a gunshot wound. The second victim was transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The decedent has been identified as 13 year-old Malachi Lukes, of Northwest, DC. (more…)

Bryan reports:
“I was walking past the little funeral home at 6th and Florida last night and noticed the beautiful stairs had been damaged pretty badly. I can’t figure out how exactly because there are light posts in the way, but it appears that a car wrecked into the stairs and did quite a number on them. There was still a piece of the headlight sitting on the step and the tree across the sidewalk had an big gash in it but I cannot figure out how a car got in there from the street without hitting the light post in the way.

A reader reports that in Shaw he heard 5-6 shots fired.

“MPD is investigating calls for sounds of gunshots in the area of the 700 block of Florida Ave NW and the Unit block of Florida Ave NE. There are no victims at this time. Due to traffic congestion, please avoid those areas until further notice.”
