Back in late March we learned that Robin’s Nest would be opening soon at 809 Florida Ave, NW. I stopped by last weekend and the space is now open. They are open Wed. – Fri. 1pm – 7pm; Sat. 11am – 6pm; and Sun. 1pm-4pm.

Some may recognize Robin and she used to show her stuff at Eastern Market for 12 years. In addition to her own wares, Robin’s Nest also features gently used clothing (photos after the jump.) Additionally on Sundays, Robin invites you to stop by and knit, crochet and/or do other crafts and just hang out. Craft classes will soon be offered at the end of June. Call 202-243-9505 to find out more and sign up.

From Seasonal Pantry’s Web site:

Seasonal Pantry’s product line is a tribute to roadside farm stands and old-fashioned markets. It’s a neighborhood store offering all sorts of house-made small-batch products, specialty foods, and local and imported goods. Think of us as a cross between an old-world butcher, an Italian pasta shop, and a family grocery.

I stopped in last weekend and they are off to great start. They’ll be getting lots more options soon. I’m also eager to check out their sister sandwich shop, SUNdeVICH, when it opens in a few weeks as well.

La Carbonara (Italian Restaurant) was located at 1926 9th St NW (south of U St, NW.) We judged them back in April ’09. Their phone has been disconnected and I noticed the for sale sign out front last Sunday. Anyone know when they closed? Will anyone miss them? Were there any fans of their former art event called Spirito di Vino?

I’ll be sure to keep an eye on the space to see who purchases it.

Ed. Note: I recognize that homelessness is still an issue in this corridor and in our city.  It is not my intention to trivialize the seriousness of this problem by including this photo with this post.

We judged Yellowhouse back in June ’09. I just noticed that their sign has been flipped over and the building painted white at the 600 block of T Street, NW near the Howard Theater and Florida Ave. I’ll be sure to keep my eye on the space to see if someone else is moving in.

At the time we discussed Yellowhouse there was lots of talk about nearby Zenebech Injera which had temporarily closed but is of course now open with a liquor license.
