“Dear PoPville,

Pharmacare Pharmacy on Florida and Georgia Ave. NW served a huge low-income contingency in DC. Social service agencies, particularly those serving HIV/AIDS and mental health clients have been left to scramble to find alternative pharmaceutical providers that deliver and work with clients even if they don’t have insurance. Big hit for an already struggling population.

There’s an article in the Baltimore Sun about the arrests and charges.”

Back in February CityPaper broke the news that La Colombe Coffee was coming to Blagden alley next to Rogue 24:

“The cafe will have a small roaster on-site and a mezzanine above the main sitting area for coffee tastings. The cafe will specialize in farm-direct, single-origin coffee.”

While the article indicated an anticipated opening by the end of the year – it still looks like they’ve got a bit of work to do:

But when finished this is gonna be awesome!

Major development coming to Blagden Alley. A liquor license posted out front (on the awesome mosaic) says The American is coming:

Classic American Bistro with 70 seats with recorded music and Summer Garden with 75 seats. Total occupancy load of 175.”

The CityPaper reported that is from none other than Xavier Cervera:

Longtime Capitol Hill restaurateur Xavier Cervera sold his nine restaurants, which included Hawk ‘n’ Dove, The Chesapeake Room, and Molly Malone’s, earlier this year. Now, he’s establishing roots in Shaw with a new American bistro.

More details when they become available.

Unfortunately this could be bad news for local boxers as this space is currently home to the Downtown Boxing Club. Though the manager doesn’t anticipate needing to close in the near future as the process to open up a new restaurant should take “a few months at least.” If they do end up closing they hope to move to a new space nearby. Updates on that front when/if they happen.

Baby Wale was a bit ambitious in hoping for a June opening by the Convention Center at 1124 9th St, NW. But some serious progress has been made. Check out this awesome new front:

A peek in the window reveals, while a lot of progress (though is that a tree in the back?) has been made, it still looks like they’re a couple of months off:

In November 2012 a liquor license said:

“A casual restaurant serving roast chicken and lobster sandwiches to local residents with a seating capacity for 150 people. Total occupancy load of 150.”

Stay tuned.

How it looked in April:

Back in early June we first learned that Dacha Beer Garden hoped to come to the empty lot on the northwest corner of 7th and Q Street, NW:

“Our goal is to create a pleasant, green and beautiful neighborhood beer garden serving world-class brews and tasty, organic food to our community. We will strive to be an exemplary small business, an active participant in the life of the community, and a good neighbor.”

You can read all about there plans here.

Looks like things are moving forward as they’ve applied for a liquor license with some more details:

“New Tavern. The establishment will offer a choice of draft beers and light fare.
Food will be pre-cooked offsite and reheated on site. It will be outfitted with a 20’-foot x 8’-foot pre-fabricated building that will be connected to public sewer and water supply and will have the following functions; 1. To provide service counter space, 2. Store and refrigerate beer kegs, 3. Reheat remotely prepared light fare on a gridle, 4. Wash beer glasses in a code compliant three compartment sink, 5. Wash glasses in an automatic glass washer, store a supply of bottled water in an under counter refrigerator. Total Occupancy load #190, Sidewalk Café Seats #30.”

They hope to operate – Sunday: 12pm-10:30pm, Monday–Thursday: 4pm-10:30pm, Friday: 4pm-11:59pm, Saturday:12pm-11:59pm.

Updates as they get closer to opening.
