Looks like Ambar is coming to the beat up building catercorner to Dacha after all. The placard says:
“New Restaurant serving Balkan food. Total Occupancy Load is 250. Sidewalk Café with 34 seats.”
Obviously a ways to go before they open. You can see their menu from their Capitol Hill location here.

“Top DC independent and minority-owned women’s apparel boutique Lettie Gooch announced that it will open its doors in The Shay in early November, joining an impressive line-up of retailers, including Warby Parker, Kit and Ace, and Compass Coffee.
Lettie Gooch, which operated on the U Street corridor for the past 6 years, will return to its home in Shaw, where it got its start in 2006.”

Compass Coffee regularly has lines out the door at their 1535 7th Street, NW location. The new location is on 8th Street just south of Florida Ave (north of T and All Souls Bar.) This is the second super popular coffee shop to open their 2nd location recently – last week The Coffee Bar opened their 2nd spot on 17th Street. Good news for coffee lovers around town.
2014 9th Street, NW
Massive news from a New York Times profile about Eric Hilton:
“Next, he gestured to No. 2014 next door, a shuttered rowhouse where Mr. Hilton plans to open a Korean barbecue restaurant with Erik Bruner-Yang, known for his ramen shop Toki Underground on H Street. It is one of four restaurant projects Mr. Hilton has underway.”

Back in July we learned about plans for a “110-unit residential building with 8,000 square feet of ground floor retail”.
