“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to give a shout out to the DC Police Department (in Shaw). On Saturday night, near the north entrance of the Shaw Metro station, about 20 feet from me, someone pulled out a gun and shot it in the air. The group of three individuals then ran away. From the Office of the DC Attorney General:

“Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb today announced a settlement requiring the owners of Foster House, an apartment building located in the Shaw neighborhood at 801 Rhode Island Avenue, NW with 76 subsidized, affordable housing units, to pay at least $1.65 million to harmed tenants and the District and to ensure that that level of affordable housing is preserved at the site for no less than 30 years. “Dear PoPville,

We in the neighborhood are incredibly excited about this prospect. The now vacant lot is owned and managed by the city. For years it has been a veritable trash heap. I had been working with the city for months to clean up the site. Realizing we needed to provide the city an alternative aside from simply asking them to clean it up, I started a petition for a dog park to be located here. (more…)
