Remember the discussion we had about the church parking in the middle of New Hampshire Ave.? Well it is going to be addressed tonight. So if you feel strongly about it this is your chance to be heard.

“Revisit the median strip (pedestrian safety) issue on New Hampshire Avenue NW between Randolph and Shepherd Streets NW. (Mr. Muhammed Khalid, DDOT Ward 4 Project Manager, or his designee.) (Comm. Jones and Martin)”

ANC meets at 801 Shepherd St NW and the meeting starts at 6:30pm

Is Petworth becoming a cyclists’ heaven? Lots of bike lanes going in – a few weeks ago it was 5th St. and now 7th St. Can 9th St. be far behind?

There was quite a back and forth last month as to whether this house at 3814 Kansas Ave. was a good deal or not? The asking price then was $545,000. Although I believed it originally was asking $595,000.

Well, it sold yesterday for $535,000.

The seller writes:

“Also, my opinion about this market is that buyers know that they have the sellers over a barrel and basically wait on the sidelines until the price is just right. The people who ended up buying our house looked at it the first time back in May and waited and waited until we dropped the price, very savvy of them to wait it out!”

Congrats to the sellers and buyers.

Remember the discussion we had about the church parking in the middle of New Hampshire Ave.? Well it is going to be addressed next Wed. So if you feel strongly about it this is your chance to be heard.  I also thought I’d keep in the section mentioning the discussion of the CVS slated to be built on the empty lot on Georgia near Looking Glass Lounge.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Revisit the median strip (pedestrian safety) issue on New Hampshire Avenue NW between Randolph and Shepherd Streets NW. (Mr. Muhammed Khalid, DDOT Ward 4 Project Manager, or his designee.) (Comm. Jones and Martin)

  2. CVS Pharmacy (Robb Lakritz of Lakritz-Adler)

Fly opens this Saturday the 13th of September. There is both men’s and women’s apparel. It is located at 832 Shepherd right off of Georgia. Nice to get some business into those stores. I still haven’t seen any progress on the Nigerian restaurant that is supposed to open next door. But it’s great to get some business going on that strip. Lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

The flier for this two unit condo conversion at 3660 New Hampshire Ave. says:

“Brand new conversion near Park Place dev! 2 units available-both 2BR/2BA, parking, great rear decks/patio. Modern kitchens-granite cntrs, maple cabs, SS appliances, new hdwds. Beautiful slate baths, spacious closets, custom shelves. Great size BRs with plenty of light. Less than 1 block to Petworth metro and steps to Columbia Heights dev: Target, etc!”

You can find more info and photos here.

I normally don’t like when the rowhouses are converted into condos but this one was pretty cool. Both units had two levels and the bathrooms were quite nice. I also think the location is pretty good. The first unit is $449,900 and the second unit is $499,900 (condo fees are $274). So, good deal or not? But I’m also interested to hear what you think about the conversion. Like I said, I thought this one looked pretty good.

Domku, located on the 800 block of Upshur will be hosting it’s first karaoke evening this Sunday. Starts at 7pm and there will be drink specials.

TO: THE BEST CUSTOMERS IN THE WORLD

Until further notice, BEVERAGEMANIA will be closed by 11:00 am everyday. Anthony, Leonard and I have had to travel to New Orleans to tend to the damages to our properties due to Hurricane GUSTAV. Unfortunately, we never really recovered from the damages caused by Hurricane KATRINA. It is because of what we witnessed in the aftermath of KATRINA that we are compelled and feel that it is our duty to lend a helping hand to those most affected by GUSTAV. We are grateful that GUSTAV did not create the same devastation of KATRINA.

Unfortunately, Al and Donnie cannot operate the store 24/7. Trevon is back in school during the days and my mother is still a full-time employee of Howard University. However, we refuse to abandon our coffee (and espresso) drinkers.

Al will open the shop from
5:00 am – 11:00 am
everyday.

Please forgive us for the inconvenience. We hope to see everyone again as soon as we return.

Thank you for your business.

Thanks to a reader for sending:

“District of Columbia officials have identified their partners that will oversee a $5 million development project of vacant properties on Georgia Avenue in northwest Washington.

Mayor Adrian M. Fenty said Friday the city is working with Donatelli Development and Mosaic Urban Partners to create retail space and condominiums on the site of three properties, about a block north of the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station.”

I think these are the vacant properties at 3813 and 3825 Georgia Avenue. So here’s some scuttlebutt that I heard. Now keep in mind these projects are not likely to be completed until 2010 but there are still some exciting possibilities that have already emerged.

There has already been interest expressed by the owners of Marvin’s as well as interest from a hardware store that will have a garden center and finally some interest from the owners of Jackie’s in Silver Spring. Pretty exciting possibilities but remember it’s still scuttlebutt at this point…

Now we don’t need to have a debate about more community centers here if you’d like you can re-read that debate. But as for the folks that have been mentioned, which would you rather see – a Marvin’s, Jackie’s or Hardware store with a garden center?

The medians outside the Petworth Metro both north and south were sodded this weekend. I think it looks ok but I was hoping we’d get some trees or flowers or something. I guess I was hoping we’d get something like this…
