More insanity from Shepherd St, NW. Thanks to all the readers who wrote in about the following incidents. This a very upsetting time for those who live nearby as these incidents seem to be becoming common place. This makes the 3rd shooting around Shepherd St and New Hampshire in approximately three weeks. I certainly hope at the very very minimum a regular patrol is put in place on this street. I don’t care if people don’t like my use of the term but it seems clear to me that some sort of war is going on between crews/gangs. Even if they are stupid kids that are not very organized, this many shootings on the same street indicates some sorta war to me. It reminds me a little bit of the multiple shootings on 14th St, NW in Columbia Heights last year that took place in a very short time period. It was also gang/crew related but that makes it no less frightening when you realize one of these days these bullets are going to hit an innocent bystander. I only hope the police, the political leadership, the community etc can do something before this happens. From MPD:

“Units received a call for sounds of gunshots around 10:15 pm in the area of the 4000 blk of 4th Street, NW. A male victim was located suffering from a gunshot wound and has been transported to an area hospital for treatment. Officers are still on the scene sorting out the details and canvassing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-888-919-CRIM(E).”

From MPD:

“At approximately 1am this morning, members of the Third District were called to the rear of the 600 block of Harvard, NW for the sounds of gunshots. Arriving units found two adult males suffering from gunshots wounds inside of the actual alley. Both males were transported to local hospitals where one of the males succumbed to his injuries. If anyone has any information relating to this incident, please call 202-727-9099”

Looks like something is finally going to replace the former space occupied by Flyy Couture at 823 Shepherd St, NW. Flyy/Finest Couture closed back in May ’09 though this is right next door to the recently opened Jamaican restaurant, Pink Snapper.

I had noticed that there was some lingerie in the window but thought it was just a leftover from the Flyy days. But then a reader wrote in asking what was going on so I went to take a closer look. And there is def. a lot of lingerie in the window (the store was closed when I stopped by) and a “stripper pole” in the center of the store (you can kinda see the pole through the door in the photo above). Perhaps lessons will be given? There is a sign in the store called goodies2go and shopgoodies2go.com but the Web site is not yet working.

Domku is located at 821 Upshur St NW. Back when I first started this site we didn’t have this section so we’re long over due for this one. Their Web site says:

“Since opening in early 2005, Domku has offered DC residents and tourists a unique dining alternative to the hurried and glitzy offerings of downtown DC. The eclectic menu of mostly Slavic and Scandinavian fare has brought pierogis, borscht, goulash, Janssen’s Temptation, and pickled herring into the everyday language of DC diners. Our menu stays as true to the foods of the region as possible but journeys, on occasion, to other former Soviet bloc regions such as Hungary, Bulgaria and the Caucasus. Perfect for cold weather months, the food is light and healthful enough to enjoy all year long.”

You can see their menus here. Back when Domku first opened it was a huge score for the neighborhood attracting folks from all over the city. Now that it’s been over 5 years what are your thoughts?

The folks from Subway send the good word (and photos):

“I am very please to tell you that we are finally opening the Petworth Subway Tuesday morning (Sept. 28) at 7am. The hours of operation will be Monday – Friday 7am – 10pm, Sat. 8am – 10pm and Sun. 9am -10pm.”

The inside is looking good. It is located on Georgia Ave, NW above the Petworth metro (next to Sala Thai.)

This has gotten beyond out of control. From MPD:

From Council Member Bowser:

I will be in continued discussion with them today to discuss strategies in 4D. Police will be canvassing for evidence and talking to anyone who might have information.”

What do you guys think of the renovation? The reader writes that this property had been vacant for 2 years. Do you think $489,000 sounds reasonable for this 4 bed/3.5 bath?

Well this is certainly, uh, an interesting choice of names… The liquor application license says:

“New cocktail bar lounge with billiard table. Salad and sandwiches will be served, no entertainment. Seating capacity is 8. Total occupancy load is 40.”

Seating capacity is 8 but no entertainment (except for a billiard table)? Sounds like a legit tavern. Could be interesting.
