Readers reported just before 4pm: “Big police presence in Georgia Ave between Otis and New Hampshire Ave. helicopter circling as well.”

“Multiple shots. May have been related to police traffic stop at Quebec and Georgia.”

From MPD: “MPD is on the scene of an officer-involved shooting near the area of Georgia Ave NW and Quebec Ave NW. At this time, no one has been struck. Additional information forthcoming. PIO en route to the scene.”

Update from CINDER:

“This came out of nowhere. We had been in active dialogue with the landlord to sort out payments owed to both parties – including back rent from the previous tenant which we are indemnified from, money owed to us from the numerous times the landlord failed to pay the building’s water bill and we had to close, as well as reduced rent during Covid.

We were in the middle of figuring out a payment plan that was fair to both parties, and then they went radio silent. We’re hopeful we can continue those negations and find a path forward that lets us continue serving this community we love so much.”

Ed. Note: Cinder is beloved in Petworth, and beyond. Really hope they can work this out.

Our lease is up this February and after talking through options with our landlord and partners, we came to the conclusion that we would need to make a change. Our move is motivated both due to operating costs in the current location and what kind of work we want and need to do in order to get to our next milestone anniversary with our community. So!
