“Fight Club, the hit pandemic-era sandwich pop-up that operated out of Beuchert’s Saloon, is resurrecting in its own brick-and-mortar location at 633 Pennsylvania Avenue SE on May 10. Fight Club 2.0, headed up by co-owners Andrew Markert, Bart Hutchins, and Mackenzie Conway, will initially open for weekday lunch, serving up the OG pop-up menu of sandwiches and snacks that gained a cult-following during the height of the pandemic. A few weeks later, it will extend its hours and roll out its full menu with expanded offerings including a new large plate menu category, as well as a cocktail program centered around boozy punches on draft. Fight Club’s initial opening hours will be Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM for full-service dining, carryout and delivery via DoorDash, Caviar and GrubHub. (more…)

Two “juvenile male victims” shot Sunday around 6:39pm Sunday

Freddy reported at 6:39pm Sunday: “Fairy certain we just heard 15-25 rounds go off in 16th street heights. AS350 overhead and MPD nearby..”

From MPD Sunday:

“The Fourth District is on the scene of a confirmed shooting in the 900 block of Ingraham Street NW. (2) juvenile male victims were both found suffering from gunshots and transported to local hospitals for treatment. (more…)

Archeological Finds Vol. 67 – Mason Jar

Thanks to ss for sharing from U Street: “When we dug out the basement of our 1890 rowhome, the crew unearthed an old mason jar, completely intact, that was under the old cement slab. According to the markings on the bottom of the jar, it was created in Harpers Ferry, WV in the 1920s, if I recall correctly. We cleaned it off and still have it. I wish I would have thought about burying something before the poured the new foundation.

It really is remarkable that this thing survived the jackhammering of the cement slab and dig out. Glad the workers saved it too.”

MPD Notes a “sharp increase” of Automobile Thefts in NoMa and Union Market

“The Fifth District is experiencing a sharp increase of motor vehicle thefts, particularly in NoMa between North Capitol and First ST NE, and New York Ave and M ST NE, and in the Union Market area.

Many of the stolen vehicles are vehicles that are left running unattended, often by drivers delivering food. MPD is increasing patrols in the area, but need help from the public to prevent these thefts. Here are few prevention tips: (more…)
