The Navy Yard Relief Fund will support the victims’ families and those injured in the attack.

This fund will provide direct support where it is most urgently needed in the short-term to assist our neighbors as they heal. 100% of contributions to the fund will support the victims’ families and those injured.

The Safer Communities Fund will address the long-term, systemic challenge of violence in our region. As a community foundation – and as residents of the region – we believe it is our duty to do all we can to help make our community a more healthy, safe, and stable place to live. Thus, the Safer Communities Fund will support nonprofit organizations that offer mental health services and reduce gun violence in our community.

“The Mayor’s Assistance Center will be open today, 9.17.13 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the King Greenleaf Recreation Center ( 201 N Street, SW) for anyone affected by the Navy Yard shootings. Crisis counselors and advocates will be on hand to assist with any needs, including mental health assistance, compensation assistance, and assistance with return of property left in the buildings at the Navy Yard. Crime Victim Compensation will be on hand at both sites.

The FBI has established a Family Assistance Center for the families of the deceased and seriously injured at the Residence Inn-Pentagon. Their hours of operation are unknown, but family members of missing, deceased, or seriously injured victims may go to either location for assistance.

People who are seeking emergency mental health treatment can contact the DMH Access Helpline, which is available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. Friends, family and survivors who are in need of follow-up or longer term care should contact the Wendt Center for Loss and Healing (202) 624-0010 or the Network for Victim Recovery of DC (202) 727-1727.”

“Aaron Alexis, deceased, is believed to be responsible for the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard, in the Southeast area of Washington, DC, around 8:20 a.m. on September 16, 2013. The FBI is asking for the public’s assistance with any information regarding Alexis.

“The white male being sought in connection to the #NavyYardShooting has been identified and is NOT a suspect.”

“We encourage everyone to be observant. We are looking for two individuals- Possibly Connected to the Shootings at Navy Yard.

**Please use caution and do not approach them – these individuals should be considered armed and dangerous.**

1) Black male – 50 years old, carrying a long gun (rifle), wearing a drab olive military-style uniform

2) White male – carrying a hand gun, wearing a Navy-style khaki uniform (with a short-sleeved shirt), and wearing a beret-style hat

Something serious happened at Capitol Hill towers in Navy Yard. There is police tape barricading the whole corner with an ambulance and multiple police cruisers. Not sure what happened but looks serious. Any idea what is going on? Police tape was just taken down, but was up for 4 hours.”

I stopped by Nando’s Peri Peri for a preview yesterday in the Boilermaker shops at Navy Yard. They are located a few doors down from the coming Bluejacket Brewpub on Tingey Street. The space turned out really nice:
