From a press release:

“Ice Cream Jubilee, the only DC-owned and operated small-batch ice cream company, will open the doors of its first scoop shop on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 301 Water St, SE, at Yards Park along the Capitol Riverfront. Ice Cream Jubilee’s Grand Opening event will be open to the public during its regular store hours from 10:00AM – 10:00PM.

Ice Cream Jubilee was founded by Victoria Lai, an attorney-turned-icecreampreneur who began making and selling ice cream three years ago from a professional kitchen while working as a presidential appointee at the Department of Homeland Security. Since 2013, Ice Cream Jubilee has been selling its small-batch ice cream through select local markets and its old-fashioned ice cream cart. Ice Cream Jubilee won the People’s Choice Award for Best Ice Cream at the 2013 DC Scoop competition in a field of 19 entrants. It is also featured on the front page of this week’s Washington Post Food Section.

“After perfecting my flavors for three years, I am excited to make and serve ice cream at our new scoop shop and to bring more smiles to Washington, D.C.,” says Lai. “I love bringing people together around the joy of ice cream and the challenge of building something new.”

Ice Cream Jubilee reimagines the childhood joy of ice cream by combining sophisticated, international flavors with childhood-favorites like Banana Bourbon Caramel, Dark & Stormy, Mango Habanero, Thai Iced Tea, and Blueberry Pie. Using an all-natural super-premium local cream from Maryland, Ice Cream Jubilee’s product has a higher cream content and is scooped at a colder temperature than gelato, which makes it ideal for ice cream cones and sundaes. The full pictorial history of past flavors is available at www.icecreamjubilee.com.

Ice Cream Jubilee’s opening menu will include an assortment of no fewer than 12 ice cream and sorbet flavors served in cups and cones, along with drip and iced coffee from local roaster Zeke’s. Sundaes and other baked and frozen treats will follow in the coming months. Ice Cream Jubilee’s summertime hours are 10:00am to 10:00pm Monday through Saturday, and 11:00am to 8:00pm on Sundays.”

“Dear PoPville,

My friend went to the baseball game yesterday and brought all the goods to tailgate, as he has done for already this season as well as most games for the past 4 years. He was told that tailgating AND BEER was no longer allowed in the parking lot. This is unbelievable! Have you or other readers heard anything about this?! Is it just certain lots that you can’t tailgate in???? Was it an April Fools joke in July?! Please advise…”

navy_yard_rental

This rental is located somewhere in Navy Yard. The listing says:

“I bought this condo because I wanted a nice place to setup my treadmill desk and somewhat minimalist setup. I found the Navy Yard location excellent for bikeshare and easy access to the interstate (which is crucial, since I work outside the beltway). The condo building is new, everything works, and it is easy to clean. My furniture is currently scheduled to be moved into storage while I am away, but I would be willing to leave it in place at no additional cost if you like the setup.

Available 8/1/2104. Murphy bed included. One underground parking space included. Twelve month lease, $3000 deposit, utilities NOT included (average $60 electric, $30 water/trash), building has $300 move in/out fee.”

You can see more photos here.

This studio is going for $1,850/Mo.

From a press release:

“As part of an extraordinary nationwide design competition, the 11th Street Bridge Park is excited to announce four nationally recognized design teams have been selected to envision Washington D.C.’s first elevated public park on the foundation an old freeway bridge spanning the Anacostia River.

The public is invited on June 10 to meet the designers, who were selected by the Bridge Park’s Jury of national experts for their vision, comprehensive approach and creative energy. More than 40 teams, and 80 firms representing some of the most renowned designers in the nation, responded to an open call for submissions launched in March. Selecting the four teams furthers the goal of choosing a final design for the Bridge Park – an iconic new civic space that will provide a unique venue supporting the community’s environmental, economic, cultural and physical health. From The Yards Park:

“The Yards Park Canal Basin splash pool, waterfall, and fountains are a favorite destination for kids and adults alike in the Capitol Riverfront. With Memorial Day just around the corner, we wanted to give you an update on their status in the wake of the record rainfall and subsequent flooding that hit the DC region and our neighborhood as well. At the heaviest point during the rainfall, our pump room was flooded. The equipment designed to keep the water features clean and safe was damaged. We are working diligently to determine whether these pumps can be fixed, or must be replaced. At this point, we have removed two of the pumps to have them inspected and reconditioned.

While we hoped to have features available for Memorial Day, unfortunately this won’t be the case. At this point, we do not have an exact time for when the water features will be operational. Our goal is to find a long-term solution and to take steps that will prevent this kind of incident from happening again in the future.

Like you, we are disappointed that the water features are down, but we are committed to have them in working order as soon as possible. In the meantime, we encourage you to enjoy other fun things in the neighborhood including our Friday Night Concerts, the Riverwalk Trail, and the 42-jet fountain in nearby Canal Park. Please check The Yards Park website (www.yardspark.org) where we will provide updates on our progress.”

Looks like we have a little turf battle of the banners going on in the 1100 block of 8th Street, SE. Who has the right to the block Barracks Row or Capitol Riverfront?

Side note – I’m digging the new (to me) Barracks Row banners:

Side note two – thanks to reader for sending word that the former Levi’s Port Cafe space is for rent:
