“Dear PoPville,
I was just wondering if anybody knew whether the dog park next to Dock 79 and across from the Nationals Stadium is closing soon? The parking lot next to it is all closed off, and the entire lot is now fenced in. There is still a small entrance to the dog park, but it looks like it could be gone soon too. I had originally heard rumors that the lot had been sold and the dog park would close, but I thought it wasn’t going to happen until the summer of 2019. Any info on this? This is my dog’s favorite dog park, so I hope it doesn’t close.”

I hope they will include a dog park. There are so many dogs in @TheYardsDC and extremely limited space for them to play. Both a quality of life and public health issue. A small gravel pit isn't cutting it.

From a press release:
“Forest City Washington has announced its vision for phase two of The Yards, which is anticipated to break ground in 2019 and be completed in 2030. The next phase of the project’s master expansion plan focuses on the development of 3 million square feet of mixed-use space, which will be built on the currently undeveloped 18 acres of land on the western side of The Yards, between 1s t Street SE and New Jersey Avenue.
Once completed, The Yards will encompass 48 acres, featuring 1.8 million square feet of office space, 400,000 square feet of retail and dining, and up to 3,400 residential units in what will be the largest urban waterfront development in all of D.C. Dozens of chef-inspired restaurants and bars, best-in-class retail, entertainment and office space, luxury residential properties and outdoor communal green space will anchor the development as D.C.’s premier, mixed-use waterfront neighborhood. The Yards will also be home to the first hotel in the development with the flagship Thompson D.C. hotel slated to open in 2020. The luxury hotel will have 225 rooms, 38 suites and will have a ground-level restaurant and an expansive rooftop bar with 360-degree views of the city.
The second phase of development is expected to include the following key elements: (more…)

“Nationals, can the post game clean up with the leaf blowers please wait until the next day? It’s almost 1am and some of the residents in Capitol River Front have to be up in a few hours for work. Thanks!”

From a press release:
“Nantucket-born Oath Pizza — the beloved pizza brand known for its grilled and seared in avocado oil thin crust pizzas and the only Certified Humane pizzeria in the country — debuts in Washington DC’s Navy Yard [110 M Street SE] on Monday, April 9th. Located steps away from the Navy Yard metro stop and across the street from Nationals Park, Oath Pizza opens just in time for the start of baseball season, offering a new food and drink option near the ballpark for locals and destination diners alike. The new restaurant is Oath Pizza’s first in the city and second in the metro area — they opened in Fairfax, VA in the Mosaic District last fall.
To celebrate the new restaurant, Oath Pizza will be hosting a grand opening celebration on Thursday, April 19th from 11am to 10pm, where they will offer half of every pizza on the house. They will also have live music, complimentary tote bag giveaways and snacks.

Oath Pizza’s Navy Yard restaurant will feature an exclusive new seasonal pizza special: Crabby Old Baystard with Old Bay-seasoned lump crab meat, creme fraiche ricotta sauce, crust bread crumbs, Old Bay aioli, scallions and lemon. (more…)

“Due South is thrilled to announce the grand opening of Due South Dockside, located along the Yards Boardwalk behind the flagship restaurant. Along with incredible views of the Capitol Riverfront, the venue offers an extensive bar along with a wide variety of classic Due South dishes.
Dockside’s grand opening begins at 11am on Thursday, April 5th, with Mix 107.3’s Ashley Nickels broadcasting live from the new locale from 10am to 3pm. Stop by Dockside on the way to the game to meet Ashley, and enter to win awesome prizes, tickets, and more from DC’s best music mix station.
Chef Rusty Holman has prepared a special Opening Day menu, featuring dishes such as Pulled Pork Nachos, Smokehouse Chili, BBQ Sliders, Hot Dogs, Chili Dogs, and the Summer House Sandwich.
Dockside’s bar features beers on tap, including Pacifico, Due South Lager, and Devil’s Backbone Earned Run Ale. In addition to beer, wine, and spirits, Dockside also offers Frosé, the perfect accompaniment to a warm summer day in Navy Yard.
Dockside will be open at least two hours before and after each Nationals home game throughout April. Beginning May 1st, Dockside plans to be open at 11am daily, weather dependent.”

When I was checking out the new All-Purpose, man if you haven’t been to Navy Yard in a minute, this guy threw for me for a bit. It’s DC Water’s new administrative headquarters:
“The new headquarters will be built over an operating pump station in the Capital Riverfront neighborhood. With 151,300 gross square feet, it will house approximately 350 employees and will allow DC Water to consolidate its administrative offices in a single location. Construction began in 2016 and is expected to be completed in early 2018.”

It was a cloudy day and I’m sure would be more mind blowing with blue skies but I dig it.

We’re also debuting a brand-new Pilsner, Love Cats, in honor of the home opener. It is classic, crisp, clean and–in the northern German tradition–hop-forward, bone-dry, brisk and bitter. It is the perfect baseball beer, and eminently drinkable at 5% abv.

Love Cats is brewed exclusively with Pilsner Malt and Yakima Valley-grown Loral hops. Loral is a newer American varietal that shows classic, German-grown noble hop flavors (floral, earthy, spicy) accompanied by notes of dark fruit. Post-fermentation, this Pilsner is matured in tank for 4 weeks prior to service.
Then, on Friday 4/6/18, we will release cans of Love Cats for our weekly can release.”
