“City-State Brewing Co., DC’s newest brewery and community gathering space, officially opens its taproom to the public Friday, June 4th.

The long-awaited homegrown brewery celebrates the District of Columbia in every way, from the beer, named after defining traits and historic moments like 8 Wards Independent Pale Ale and Lost Laws Pilsner, to the location, accessible by metro and the Metropolitan Branch Trail. The space includes an exhibit wall dedicated to the area’s culture and history, including 45 posters depicting DC neighborhoods by local artist Anthony Dihle.

“City-State is one big, heartfelt toast to DC,” said owner James Warner. “It’s a space that honors and celebrates everything unique about the District.”

The 13,000 square-foot brewery is housed in a former freight rail depot on the border of the Edgewood and Brookland neighborhoods. There is a taproom on site as well as an arts venue that will feature live music and an event space open to community groups. It will be open: (more…)

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, May 2, 2021, in the 600 block of Edgewood Street, Northeast.

At approximately 8:38 pm, members of the Fifth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, members located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. (more…)

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, in the 2600 block of 12th Place, Southeast.

At approximately 7:03 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the listed location for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, members located a juvenile male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 15 year-old Jamarid Robinson, of Southeast, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at 202-727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by sending a text message to 50411.”

“Two initiatives to assist flood victims were announced by DC Water last night, including one that will give residents direct financial assistance with removing standing water damage in their homes.

“The Bowser Administration and the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) will host its weekly produce giveaway at the city’s first rooftop community garden on Tuesday, September 1 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Edgewood Recreation Center in Ward 5.

The rooftop farm is the first of its kind at a DPR facility and is classified as a green roof. The farm is 55′ X 48′ (2640 square feet) with five raised beds to assist seniors and people with disabilities. There is special soil used to reduce the weight of the roof and the farm is designed to grow a large amount of food in a small space. (more…)

“We saw everything happen. Sounded like a bomb. Bottom fell out of car, big fire that dissipated quickly. The car spun out, hit another car, and spun into the median and up the street. Parts of the car everywhere.”

“On April 27, 2020, members of the Fifth District Crime Suppression Team were proactively patrolling the Eckington and Edgewood neighborhoods in relation to a number of recent offenses in the area. Members observed an SUV that was taken in an Armed Carjacking on April 25, 2020. As Officers approached the vehicle numerous subjects fled. In a combined effort patrol officers and Crime Suppression Officers were able to stop and identify the seven occupants of the SUV and recover a semi-automatic handgun, as well as the stolen SUV.
