“Dear PoPville,

Just wanted to let you know that Mamma’s Bagels in Chevy Chase was extremely short-lived. They’re no longer making bagels. Not gonna lie, my boyfriend and I are really disappointed–they made an unpretentious and affordable bacon, egg, and cheese that had become a staple in our lives, and it’s absence will leave a void.”

Thanks to Noa for passing on the confirmation from Call Your Mother:

“We’re kicking 2023 off with some BIG BABY NEWS. One is at 5035 Connecticut Ave NW and one is in @danielamoreira’s tummy. BOTH COMING SOON. We’re honored to carry on the legacy of our friends at Little Red Fox in a spot that we’ve shared so many beautiful memories. we love you all!!!!”

My guess is that, if true, Call Your Mother will not announce until Little Red Fox’s last day on December 23rd so as not to overshadow their last days. Alas, since I keep getting messages from folks asking – I will also share the potentially fantastic yet at the same time truly bittersweet news. The sadness about Little Red Fox closing is still too fresh to be truly overjoyed. But, if true, when the dust settles, a good bagel sandwich should help ease the pain a bit. (more…)

Little Red Fox shares in their IG this morning:

“Dearest Friends & Neighbors,

After more than 9 wonderful years, we will be closing our doors at the end of this month. December 23rd will be the last day of service at Little Red Fox and Sugar Fox.

This is not a business decision. Our little neighborhood operation has maneuvered around every bump and turn and continues to thrive thanks to our incredibly hard working staff, our incredibly supportive community, and countless regulars who visit us almost every single day. This is a personal decision by us, store owners Matt and Jena. In order to address complicated health issues and prioritize the well being of our family, we’ve had to make the very difficult decision to close. (more…)
