Thanks to all who passed on the rumor from UrbanTurf last night saying that Call Your Mother could be coming to the former Little Red Fox space (5035 Connecticut Ave, NW.) I’ve been sitting on this scuttlebutt since Friday because I’ve been trying to get confirmation from Call Your Mother (in the past they’ve been quick to respond to my queries.) My guess is that, if true, Call Your Mother will not announce until Little Red Fox’s last day on December 23rd so as not to overshadow their last days. Alas, since I keep getting messages from folks asking – I will also share the potentially fantastic yet at the same time truly bittersweet news. The sadness about Little Red Fox closing is still too fresh to be truly overjoyed. But, if true, when the dust settles, a good bagel sandwich should help ease the pain a bit. (more…)

Little Red Fox shares in their IG this morning:
“Dearest Friends & Neighbors,
After more than 9 wonderful years, we will be closing our doors at the end of this month. December 23rd will be the last day of service at Little Red Fox and Sugar Fox.
This is not a business decision. Our little neighborhood operation has maneuvered around every bump and turn and continues to thrive thanks to our incredibly hard working staff, our incredibly supportive community, and countless regulars who visit us almost every single day. This is a personal decision by us, store owners Matt and Jena. In order to address complicated health issues and prioritize the well being of our family, we’ve had to make the very difficult decision to close. (more…)

“Child’s Play Toys & Books announces Rita Pin Ahrens as the new owner and chief happiness officer of its three stores in Washington, D.C., McLean, Va., and Arlington, Va. As a long-time customer, former teacher and community advocate, Ahrens is honored to continue the legacy of Child’s Play as a locally owned, neighborhood toy store that has brought happiness to families for 35 years.
Ahren’s company, Soksaby, purchased the store on September 1, 2022. In the Khmer language, “soksaby” means “health and happiness.” Soksaby is a woman- and minority-owned business based in Washington, D.C. (more…)

I noticed these flags underneath speed limit signs up and down Connecticut Ave. over the weekend.
A bit reminiscent of the good old (bad) days, when crossing the street for pedestrians was like a game of frogger. [It seems like a joke, but I swear to you this really was a thing. And it worked about as well as you might imagine.]
And yet there are those who still think this is the problem: (more…)

Can Opal, a “Coastal American Restaurant”, stop the bleeding at this location? The space is the former home to La Siesta “Mexican Food So Cal Style” and Capital Crab & Seafood Co and before them the longtime home to Arucola.
Since Nina May is pretty great, I’m cautiously optimistic. (more…)

Ed. Note: Haven’t seen any arson alerts from DC FEMS or MPD as of 2pm Thursday.
“Dear PoPville,
Over the last several night (since Friday), an arsonist has been setting fires in dumpsters/trash cans in alleys (Conn and Legation/Livingston, behind Stabucks and Parthanon), but last night he/she took a step further and torched a garage. (more…)
