Politics and Prose Expanding Flagship Store into old Dry Cleaners Next Door

“The history of Politics and Prose has been one of periodic expansion. Since its founding 33 years ago, the bookstore has grown from a single, narrow space on the west side of Connecticut Avenue NW to its current location consisting of three storefronts on the avenue’s east side. But even that enlarged space, totaling about 11,500 square feet, hasn’t been enough to accommodate the store’s increasing activities and staff.

Now that’s about to change. The recent closing of Regal Customs Cleaners next to P&P has opened the way for a further expansion of the bookstore. Plans call for a part of the former cleaners to be converted into new retail space for books and non-book items. The rest will be turned into offices and storage areas, enabling a number of P&P staff members currently housed in a nearby condo to relocate and work out of the store itself.

Renovation of the former cleaners has already begun and is due for completion by February. (more…)

Does anyone know why the Exxon station at the corner of Connecticut and Nebraska charges more than $1 more per gallon than the BP and Shell stations a block away on Connecticut Ave (on the other side of Politics and Prose)? I’ve wondered for ages.”

This has also driven me crazy. Anyone out there have any ideas?

“Insane crash on western ave just off the circle – the telephone pole is cracked in two spots and being held up by a small crane. Tons of pepco trucks.”

At 9:19 this morning Alert DC reports:

“DDOT reports Western Ave at Chevy Chase Circle, NW is clear. All lanes are open.”

Allyson reports:

“Anyone know what happened? Taxi flipped at 14th and L NW around 11:30pm on Sunday. I was driving by and police hadn’t shown up yet. Seems the driver was still in the car. Hoping everyone is okay!! People were surrounding it trying to help.”

“This is big news for us in chevy chase- longtime businessman, mayoral candidate, and restaurateur choked to death at the palm last night. A controversial figure in upper northwest and across the city for decades.”

NBC Washington reported:

“A well-known Washington, D.C., restaurateur died after he choked while having dinner at The Palm Wednesday night.

Jeffrey Gildenhorn, the owner of American City Diner in Northwest Washington, was taken to George Washington University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Gildenhorn was 74.”

The copperhead is the cause of many snakebites yearly but they are rarely fatal. Bites occur by accidentally stepping on or touching the snake, which tends to be well camouflaged with its surroundings. When touched, the copperhead quickly strikes or remains quiet and tries to crawl away. Sometimes when touched, they emit a musk that smells like cucumbers.”

According to the Washington Post, the conservative group secretly recorded a meeting of the activists AT COMET Ping Pong, where they met to allegedly planned an acid attack on Trump supporters who attended the Deplorables Ball at the National Press Club.

Comet cannot catch a break!”

The video in which the alleged planned acid attack was discussed was recorded at Comet Ping Pong on Connecticut Avenue, the same pizza shop a gunman had entered weeks earlier to investigate fake news claims of an underground child-porn ring involving Democratic officials.
