“Dear PoPville,

There is an alcohol permit request (dated Aug 2) in the window in the same building as the under construction Alba Osteria. This new place is going to be called Eye Street Cellars. I did a google search, but nada. It’s located on Eye St. just past 4 1/2 St (alley) in NW. Permit says Class A retail with Tasting permit. Figure it won’t be some cheap liquor store based on the location, but who knows?”

You can see their menu here. (Drink menu here and brunch menu here.)

How’s the pastrami? Any must order sandwiches?

If Walmart still comes to DC they’ll be selling beer and wine.

The liquor license at 77 H St, NW, hoping to open in November, says:

“Full service grocery store with accessory retailer sales and provides underground parking for patrons. Requesting a tasting permit.”

Hours for sales will be Sunday through Saturday 7 am – 12 am.

“Dear PoPville,

As a resident of Mt. Vernon Triangle for three years, I am appalled at what has been allowed to occur by city officials and authorities for the past year on the entrance ramp to the 3rd Street Tunnel from Mass Avenue as well as over the past 6 months in Cobb Park/DPA 1089, located at 2nd/Mass, NW.

The entrance ramp for the 3rd Street tunnel, an area which I would consider a highly visible spot, has been occupied by anywhere from 1 to 5 tents at a time. This started around the time when the OccupyDC tents were removed from McPherson Square and Freedom Plaza. As these tents have become abandoned over the past year, everything is left on the side of the road. When I say everything, I mean EVERYTHING. The tents remain, broken down by weather, complete with an array of blankets, trash, beer cans, American flags, food wrappers and clothing, just to name a few items.

Four months ago, I witnessed three police officers on segues approach the tents when they were being occupied and I was thrilled that something was going to be done. The next morning, I drove by to go to a meeting and another tent had been added to the mix. As of today, the tents remain, some of the people remain, the trash remains and not a thing has been done to either help these people find a shelter or to clean up the mess that has been left behind.

I am convinced that the blind-eye that has been turned to these tents, has stemmed into the monstrosity known as ‘Cobb Park/DPA 1089’, which sits at 2nd and Mass Avenue, NW. For the past six months, this park has become unsafe and a terrible eyesore for the community. On any given day at any given time, you can witness the following (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Any idea on what this space is, or is intended to be? It lies around 2nd / Mass / NJ NW intersection and is also referred as DPR 1089.

The last few weeks there seems to have been dozens of people all gathered around every day, most looking homeless, but some with lounge chairs and umbrellas. The last couple days the cops have been over there arresting some and talking to others, as pictured here.”

Bolt Burgers is where sophisticated burger lovers kick back and enjoy flavors they can’t get at any other fast casual burger restaurant—big, satisfying flavors beyond what you expect from a burger, fries and soft drink. The antithesis of quick serve burger joints, it’s an experience worth savoring, from the hand formed patty of Bolt’s exclusive, extra juicy blend of Certified Angus Beef, to the toasted brioche bun, to the layers of flavor piled in between, including:

Spice rubs, such as Toasted Peppercorn & Herb, and Fiery Chili, Cumin & Paprika
Artisanal Cheeses, such as Local Virginia Goat Cheese, Truffle Pecorino and Smoked Gouda
Exclusive Sauces, such as Tomato and Sweet Basil, and Habanero, Cilantro & Lime Mayo
Homemade relishes, such as Black Bean, Corn & Onion, and Crunchy Asian Slaw

For those who hunger for something other than beef, Bolt also offers:

Turkey Burgers
Marinated Chicken Breasts
Vegetarian Black Bean Burgers
Gourmet Griddled Cheesewiches made with Bolt’s artisanal cheeses.
