Pre-demo – 460 New York Avenue, NW
Last month a reader wondered about the demo of the old warehouse at 5th and New York Ave, NW. Looks like one wall will remain:

Why it is worth keeping one wall remains unclear…

“Dear PoPville,
Alba Osteria is officially open! I went to happy hour tonight with a friend, and so far I like it, so I thought I’d spread the news….
During happy hour, all of their draft beers are $4, including a pretty decent selection of local and other craft beers. There are a few random meat-based food selections, plus all of the pizzas are half off (so about $6-7 each, I guess) and there are a lot of vegetarian options there. I was worried about the atmosphere but it was pretty nice and low key. It also wasn’t too loud or anything … although it was far from filled when I was there from about 5:15 to 8:30 or so. Hooray for new places in the (work) ‘hood!”
Their facebook page says:
“Guests can anticipate cuisine from Chef Roberto Donna’s home region of Piemonte, Italy with a focus on the town of Alba. Guests can anticipate an expansive salumi and formaggi counter, plus a selection of antipasti, house-made pastas (available in small and large portions), and Neapolitan pizzas. A variety of daily specials displayed in “Italian sized” portions will also be available for sharing in the traditional Piemontese fashion.”
Their hours are:
Monday – Thursday
11 AM – 11 PM
Friday
11 AM – 12 AM
Saturday
10:30 AM – 12 AM
Sunday
10:30 AM – 11 PM

“Dear PoPville,
Have you heard anything more about Alba Osteria? They were supposed to open today [Dec. 15] according to their press release … and they’re certainly close to being ready, with chairs, table settings, etc in place. They clearly didn’t actually open today though.”
In a call to Alba Osteria – they say they are hoping to open by December 30th.
For those not familiar we previously learned:
“The 226-seat restaurant, including a 63-seat outdoor seasonal patio, will enjoy authentic Italian cuisine reflective of the Piedmonte region of Italy, Executive Chef Roberto Donna’s homeland. Amy Brandwein has been tapped as chef de cuisine of Alba Osteria, overseeing the daily culinary operations.
Alba, Italy is situated between the region’s wine country and agricultural center, and food here is a classic representative of Piemonte’s cuisine. Donna’s menu at Alba Osteria will offer a selection of salumi and formaggi, antipasti, house-made pastas (small and large portions), and Neapolitan pizza. Daily specials will be “Italian sized” portions, designed to be ordered and shared for the table in a Piemontese fashion. Donna’s tempting choices will be priced from $5 to $19.”

460 New York Ave, NW
“Dear PoPville,
It was my understanding that the old warehouse was going to be preserved and incorporated into the design of the new structure. Perhaps it still is, but they sure are eating away at a good chunk of it. You wonder if it’s even worth it.”

460 New York Ave’s website says (and you can see more renderings there too):
“460 New York Avenue
With its metal and glass tower rising above a preserved historic warehouse, 460 New York Avenue is worlds above common urban condos. This boutique community puts you right in the heart of the city, with your fingers on the pulse of modern style and convenience.”
