From a press release:

“Internationally renowned Japanese chef and restaurateur Makoto Okuwa, who earlier this year opened three full-service Love, Makoto concepts, has opened the much-anticipated Phase 2 of his food hall. Joining the already popular restaurants Dear Sushi and Beloved BBQ—plus the buzzy bar Hiya Izakaya—the fast-casual component of the food hall will at first sell salads, fried-chicken sandwiches, sushi rolls and ramen in addition to a robust coffee and tea program. Down the line, a Japanese bakery opening earlier and featuring mochi donuts and soft serve will help locals and tourists awake to something sweet. Other savories like dumplings and Japanese curries will also join the lineup. Read More

“Dear PoPville,

Did you know the little police house at 501 New York Ave in the middle of mount vernon triangle is being turned into the central cell block for dc? All detainees will be held there. And possibly released from there as well. I don’t think the community even knows what’s happening”

“Dear PoPville,

The guy in this photo is pretending to be a fire system inspector. In the middle of our busiest time at Pearl’s Bagels [Saturday} AM this man came in and told our manager that he was there to inspect our fire suppression system and update the tags on our vent hood. He had our manager call us, and when he got off the phone he lied to them and said that we had forgotten to let them know that he was coming, handed them 4 bills, and told them that Oliver said to just pay the bills via cash in the safe. They were busy and flustered and paid him without confirming that we’d said this. The bills totaled $947 dollars.

We realized it was a scam when they told us they’d paid him cash, and when we looked at the bill we realized it’s a phony company with a fake address.

DO NOT PAY THIS MAN ANY MONEY!!”

Update from Melange’s PR team: “Unfortunately, the news is true. This weekend will be Melange’s last day at its current location.”

A reader reports earlier this week: “Just heard from the staff at Melange in Mount Vernon Triangle that they are closing up their restaurant. Sadly this is their last week.”

Perhaps focusing on Doro Soul?

I’ve sent messages to their PR rep and the restaurant but have not heard back yet. A call to the restaurant this morning rings without answer or voicemail. Will update if/when I learn more.
