Thanks to DaphinDC for sending last night:

“NJ Ave & H Street NW; 2nd time in 3 days there’s been one of these collisions. What’s up w/ this intersection? Send note of concern where?”

Ed. Note: I advised contacting the D.C. Department of Transportation but a local ANC could probably help too.

“Dear PoPville,

I witnessed a crime (yes, I’ve called the police and reported) and I wanted to let others know to be on the look out for this man.

I was walking east on Mass ave between 7th and 6th NW (In front of Soul Cycle, across from Farmers/Distillers) Thursday at 2pm and I saw a man run up behind a woman who was clearly on the phone distracted and start taking photos up her gym shorts. (more…)

From a press release:

“Mayor Muriel Bowser was joined by local and federal officials, as well as members of the Bowser Administration, to showcase the conversion of the Walter E. Convention Center into an alternate care site to support the District’s coronavirus (COVID-19) medical surge response.

“Our hope is that as Washingtonians continue working together to blunt the spread of COVID-19, we never get to the point of needing to use this site. But if we end up needing additional hospital capacity, these beds are here and ready for patients,” said Mayor Bowser. “We are very grateful for all of our local and federal partners who worked quickly to get this site ready to go in just a few weeks. And we are very grateful for all the people in our community who are making sacrifices and doing their part to save lives and keep our city safe and healthy.”

The Convention Center’s Hall A, through the coordination of more than a dozen local and federal agencies, can now accommodate 437 beds and is ready to accept 100 patients this week. (more…)

From emails:

“Corduroy and Baby Wale are reopening this week with Dinner To Go, A Virtual Farmers Market, and Liquor Mart.

The menu for dinner to go will change frequently. This week we are offering 3 soups, Red Snapper Bisque, Chestnut Soup, Parsnip Soup and an Asparagus and Frisee Salad with an onsen egg. Main courses include Grilled Lamb Loin with a Rutabaga Gratin and Pork Cheeks Osso Bucco Style with Tarbais Beans.

The Virtual Farmers Market is a convenient way for people to get fresh local produce and support local farms without having to contend with crowds at farmers markets. Many of the farms that we buy from only sell to restaurants. They are not set up to sell to large grocery stores. Farmers had already planted many crops when the virus hit and their produce will probably be wasted if it does not go to a restaurant. This is not the cheapest produce available but it is super fresh and we are marking it up as little as possible. This week we have asparagus, strawberries, red and green leaf lettuce, garlic with green tops and smooth Kale. This list will grow and change with the season.

The Liquor Mart will offer beer, wine and liquor at great prices. (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“n coordination with the Bowser Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District, has issued a design/build contract to Hensel Phelps Construction Co., to convert the Walter E. Washington Convention Center into an alternate care facility to support the District’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19).

“While our goal is to never use the Convention Center, we must have the capacity to support a potential increase in COVID-19 patients,” said Mayor Bowser. “We thank the Army Corps, FEMA, and Events DC for their continued partnership during this public health emergency.”

Through a phased construction approach, 500 beds will be set up by the first week in May with the remaining 1,000 beds completed by the end of May. The plan converts the Convention Center’s three halls, approximately 473,000 square feet, into a facility to treat low-acuity patients. Low-acuity patients are non-ICU patients that do not require a ventilator. (more…)
