Back in April we learned more details about Each Peach market coming to the former Nana’s space in Mt. Pleasant. They’ve just launched a kickstarter campaign to get them the rest of the way:

We have our shop space on Mt. Pleasant Street and have made great strides in getting it ready for our opening later in summer 2013. We are putting the final touches on the build out and getting our shop ready for business. What comes next is the fun (though challenging!) part– purchasing all the delicious products and raw ingredients that we’ve identified and getting our shop shelves stocked up. That’s where we can really use your support- it take a huge initial investment to purchase all our goodies and inspirational ingredients. We are financing this market all ourselves with the support of our friends, families and community are being as bootstrappy as possible. That is why we are asking for you support to give us that additional push that we need to get the yum in our shop!

Lots more information here.

3145 Mt. Pleasant Street, NW June 2013

@DCRA tweeted the good news Friday:

“Yesterday, we issued bldg permits for the reconstruction of 3145 Mt Pleasant St NW.”

On March 13th 2008 a reader alerted us to the sadness:

“We are homeless.

Love,
the former residents of 3145 mt pleasant st. washington, dc

(it burnt down)”

Another resident writes:

“i was living on the first floor, the fire started in the basement. i saw the fire started on some machinery, after i put a extinguisher on it, it kept reigniting, by the time the fire engines showed up, the first basement was out of control.”

On March 17th 2008 a reader updated us:

“I can only imagine what those without renters insurance are going through but the community has come together to help make things a bit easier. Unfortunately no phone calls have been returned/and no statement has been made from the management company/owners of the building (just goes to show you how concerned they are). We hope all the other residents are doing well.”

It’s been a long time.

You can read all back posts on the former Deauville, now the Monseñor Romero Apartments here.

Dear PoPville,

A nice kid came to my door and animatedly pitched how he is raising money for traveling with the Cardozo Senior Marching Band. I gave him $20 to reach his $650. He wrote down my email so that the band director could send me a receipt.

I emailed the principal. They do not allow students to solicit money.
