hostile

“Dear PoPville,

Noticed today that there’s some new hostile architecture in Lamont Park: wooden dividers installed on all the benches so folks can’t lie down. I’ve lived on the block facing this park for 7 years and have never found people resting on the benches to be a problem. Anyone have an idea who is responsible for this and how we can speak out against it?”

UPDATE from DPR:

“The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) would like to thank the community for bringing this to our attention. The installation of the middle dividers was not authorized by the District government. Therefore, at DPR’s request, the Department of General Services (DGS) removed the dividers earlier this week.”

“Dear PoPville,

My friends and I live in an amazing three story rowhouse divided into apartments in our favorite part of DC. The excellent landlady unfortunately has to sell the house due to some health issues and we’re thinking to pool our money (and TOPA rights) to buy the house.

It makes a lot more sense to buy the home as a group then divide it into condos, so we’re not all stuck to living together for all time. Does anyone out there have any estimates of how much it costs to convert a pre-existing apartment building into condos?

Open to any other ideas on how to do this as well.”

End of a mini-era. Flying Fish opened up back in 2011. Thanks to Dave for sending word from Flying Fish:

After nearly six years in operation, Flying Fish will be closing its doors on March 12. But fear not! Coming soon will be a new concept by the owners of Each Peach Market (including some great coffee).

It has been a pleasure to be your local stop for coffee and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the friendship and support you have shown me over the years.”

So quit your crying that Mount Pleasant never gets anything good!! Thanks to all who emailed and as one said, with this and the coming Paisley Fig, things are looking good on the Mount Pleasant strip.

Yesterday Washingtonian reported:

“The owners of Woodridge’s Mediterranean restaurant Nido are moving toward Spanish cuisine and its Moorish North African influences for their next restaurant. Co-owners Erin Lingle and Karlos Leopold will open Mola! in Mount Pleasant. The phrase means “It Rocks!” in Spanish.”

And Washington CityPaper reported:

“The duo behind the restaurant, Karlos Leopold and Erin Lingle, say they’re trying to create a neighborhood gathering place for laid-back date nights or a quick glass of wine. Leopold lives nearby.

Mola! is scheduled to open in late spring for dinner. The brunch menu will follow in the summer. Find it at 3155 Mt. Pleasant St. NW.”

Ed. Note: Radius closed back in August 2016. Nido opened in Woodridge back in 2015.
