This building on Logan Circle has been undergoing renovations for almost as long as I can remember. It had been covered in netting for a super long time – but the netting has finally come down. I wish I had a “before photo” but in any case – thumbs up or down?

Back in Jan. ’10 we learned that Go Mama Go would be closing at 1809 14th St, NW just north of S St NW. After recently vacating the space a new coming soon sign for Current Boutique has gone up on their front window. The clothing consignment trend continues in full force.

According to their Web site:

Current Boutique offers customers handpicked consignment pieces that fit the criteria of great quality, style, cut, and color. Ladies need a revolving wardrobe: you wear an outfit once or twice, pictures are taken, everyone’s seen you in it, and you can’t wear it again. Current Boutique is the best place to recycle your wardrobe. Turn your cluttered closet into cash now at this no-appointment-necessary boutique.

They currently have locations in Old Town and Clarendon. Anyone ever visit the VA spots?

And if you’re looking they are hiring:

Unfortunately no photos of the studio itself, but I couldn’t resist the roof top pool. $1475 sound realistic?

This 4 bed/2 bath is going for $559,000 – sound realistic?

We’ve admired their sweet sign before:

But since I see it is their 35th anniversary (Congrats!) I thought it was time for a proper judging. According to their Web site (who knew they had a Web site?):

Originally a Safeway store in the 60’s and early 70’s, the store became Capitol Supermarket in April 1976. We are a hard working Korean-American family with 3 decades of experience in the grocery business. We started by selling mainly mainstream everyday items at a low price, but as time passed our store changed with the times. Because our nation and our city is such a melting pot, we began selling international foods including a full line of Latino, Asian, and African products. In 2006, we added a full line of fresh seafood including fresh whole fish, fresh clams and mussels and live blue crabs in the summer. In 2008, we updated our beer and wine department to add more fine and imported wines and a wider selection of micro-brew and craft beers. Also in 2008 we upgraded our produce case to hold a wider selection of fresh fruits and vegetables for healthy eating. More recently we began selling more all natural and organic food items and for those on the go, we partnered with the Culinary Circle brand and added a full line of gourmet ready-to-heat and eat entrees.

And we are not finished upgrading! We are planning even more exciting changes in the upcoming years including adding more hard to find products to our store. Although our store has changed over time, we have not forgotten our original vision of providing savings to our loyal customers. So please keep checking in and see what’s new at Capitol Supermarket!

They are located at 1231 11th St, NW. Any fans?

Normally I just walk by this building above Salon Blu next to Churchkey/Birch & Barley at 1339 14th Street NW. But looking up last weekend – it’s got tons of great details:

And I’m an admitted lover of fire escapes.

A few more shots after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoP,

I’m one of those individuals not blessed with a washer and dryer in my apartment building, and my local laundromat at 11th Street and Rhode Island Ave, NW mysteriously closed, stripped bare in a matter of days. There seems to be a drought of laundromats in Logan Circle… searching online hasn’t been much help, and I’m not the kind of person who wishes to spend exorbitant amounts of money at a dry cleaner. Have any options for a simple wash and dry, or perhaps a cheap laundry service?”

Thanks to all the readers who sent in word and photos. Does anyone happen to know if there are plans for this corner? I’ll be sure to keep my eye on it. It’s a great location – so I hope/imagine it won’t sit vacant for too long.

This follows on the heels of TNT laundromat which recently closed in Bloomingdale. I wonder if this is the start of a trend?

I think there is still one available at 11th and M St, NW. That’s probably a good alternative. For those that live nearby where will you use?

Back in the day we spoke about some good ones in Mt. Pleasant.

I’ve always thought the deal at 2326 Ontario Road, NW (see below) was the best:

McCormick Paints recently moved from 1460 P St, NW to 3124 Mt. Pleasant St, NW. I’ve been getting a number of emails inquiring what will be going into the old space at 15th and P St, NW in prime Logan Circle (near Whole Foods). Well I wish I had more concrete info but I’m hearing a restaurant will be going into this space. I promise to update when I get more info on the plans. Given the space and location, I think a restaurant would do very well here.
