Bill Smith an architect with StudioSmith, LLC was kind enough to share some info and renderings for the new art gallery moving into the old L and N Thrift Store Space at 1830 14th St, NW (just south of T St.) He writes:

The new space will consist of an art gallery in the front half, with shows that feature local artists. The rear half of the space will feature a gallery/studio space for the painter Regina Miele (Raven Arts currently located above Bar Pilar) and her framing business as well. The original storefront is being restored and the interior will consist of modular translucent panels that will be on tracks, allowing for the flexibility of the space to be used for art events, possibly drawing/painting classes and work spaces.

Following renderings from StudioSmith, LLC:

Back in August ’10 we learned that L and N Thrift Store was closing at 1830 14th St, NW (just south of T St, NW across from Som Records.) I just saw today that a permit has gone up saying that it will become an art gallery:

I spoke with one of the workers who said it is a complete gut job and he let me take a peek. The space is much bigger than I thought. I’ll be sure to update as the gallery gets closer to opening.

“Dear PoP,

Any updates on what going on at the SE and SW corners at 11th Rhode Island? Laundromat and car wash is gone and the liquor store across the street locked up and cleaned out…I think you may have posted about this at one time but wondering if you’ve heard anything more? Also whoever owns the place next to the store who doesn’t take care of the loud Orange graffiti deserves a horses ass award…”

On the SE corner, I spoke with the owner on Sunday and he said the liquor store will be completely redesigned but is keeping the same name and should open in about 2 weeks. On the SW corner a commenter said that the old laundromat/car wash would become condos. No movement on that front yet but I’ll be sure to update when more info becomes available.

Back in June ’10 The Post’s Tom Siestsma shared news that a new Italian restaurant would be coming to fill the space at the corner of 14th and Q St, NW in Logan Circle. Besides some demo there hasn’t been much development in this space. This past weekend I noticed a new for lease sign has gone up in the window:

And now I’ve heard some very interesting scuttlebutt – I’m hearing that the owners of Buddakan are interested in the space. The owner is Stephen Starr of Starr restaurants. I have no idea how far along they are in the negotiations or if the Italian restaurant has completely fallen through but I know you guys like to hear the rumors when I do so there it is. I give this one an accuracy rating of 72%.

What would you rather see in this space – an Italian Restaurant or a Dim Sum place like Buddakan?

More info as it becomes available.

The Craigslist ad says:

We live in a gorgeous historic Brownstone on Logan Circle in a group home of five young professional women, and are looking for either one or two people to live in the master bedroom of our incredible house!

The room is the entire top floor, with a separate entrance via the fire escape, as well as an entrance through the rest of the house. It is quite simply… HUGE. We’ve had two girls sharing the space for the last few years, which has worked perfectly because it is essentially two rooms connected by open shelving, and both sides are approximately equal in space/size. There is a ridiculous walk-in closet with more hanging space than would ever be necessary, built in dressers and tons of storage space. The bathroom has two sinks, a tub (with jets) and a shower (with three shower heads). The room is carpeted and has cable access.

Rent is $1670 total for the room. The move in date is August 1.

Utilities usually run $50 per person once per month, which include all the basic utilities plus internet/premium cable and a cleaning service every once in a while.

The house has a large kitchen, a washer/dryer, a living room, a back deck, and an unfinished roof that we like to pretend is a finished roof.

About us- we’re in our mid-twenties, love to have fun on the weekends, but are usually pretty low key during the week… watching slightly-embarrassing television and cooking dinner. This is a group house, but because the layout of the house is very divided, there is a lot of privacy for everyone, and the top floor has more than enough room to be treated as a separate apartment in and of itself.

This house isn’t around Logan Circle… it’s on Logan Circle. Closer than imaginable to Whole Foods, VIDA gym, Logan Tavern, Studio Theatre, Starbucks and Caribou, and etc etc etc, and only a ten minute walk to the Red Line (Dupont Circle) or the Green/Yellow Line (Shaw/Howard) or the Orange/Blue Line (McPherson Sq). Two buses literally stop at our doorstep, one that goes directly to Georgetown and another that goes downtown. The 14th St. Corridor opens a new restaurant/bar every weekend it seems, U St. is only a few more blocks up and Metro Center and Chinatown are just a short walk away.

Our space is honestly unbelievable, because not only is it insanely large, but it has tons of character without sacrificing quality as often is the case in historic homes.

$1670 sound right for this arrangement in a mansion on Logan Cirlce?

“Dear PoP,

Any idea what happened to the Angelico’s at 1334 U Street, NW? It seems to have reverted back to Jumbo Slice. Would be nice to know because there is a decent amount of us that have LivingSocial deals to it.”

Strange it was almost exactly a year ago that this space became an Angelico’s. So, I stopped by on Tues. afternoon and the guy working the front desk said it’s still under the same ownership they just decided to change the name and perhaps more importantly for the question above: they are still taking the LivingSocial deal.

Which do you think is a better name?

And just south of Logan Circle at 1418 12th St, NW (in the former Roosevelt Food Shoppe carryout space) comes Pizzolis Pizzeria. It’s a takeout place that opened up about two weeks ago that also will deliver if you live between 1.5-2 miles away. In addition to pizza they have stromboli, calzone, pasta, salads, subs, gyros and more. Their flier says:

“Pizzoli’s is your neighborhood pizzeria. Our goal is to serve the fresh natural ingredient and tasty food. All of our pizzas, stromboli, flat bread and foccacia bread made with organic flour. Our dough is made fresh daily on site with 100% organic wheat flour mixed with spring water and extra virgin olive oil. Our pizza sauce is made with organic sweet tomato with real italian herbs and kosher salt topped with top quality fresh ingredient and best cheese money can buy.”

Sounds awesome – makes me wish I lived within the delivery zone.

This home is located at 1531 Vermont Ave, NW:

The flier says:

“Rarely available, beautifully appointed & updated grande dame less than a block off Logan Circle. Period & architectural details, high ceilings, large-scaled rooms perfect for entertaining, hardwood floors, expansive kitchen addition, landscaped patio & generous roof deck, wonderful Master Suite & 2nd floor den/family room, renovated 2 bedroom in-law suite with front & rear entrances.”

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

This 7 bed/3.5 bath is going for $1,520,000. How do you think it ranks among house porn posts?

“Dear PoP,

Last week while shopping at Whole Foods on P street, I noticed a new place called “Number 9” was unveiled. It’s in the old Halo spot between Stoney’s and Commissary. Do you know anything about it?”

Their Web site says:

Number Nine is the ninth (and newest) offering from the partnership that has given Washington, D.C.’s gay community a history of substantial nightlife options for over two decades.

Number Nine is located in the middle of everything in the heart of Logan Circle right across from Whole Foods. Though it was formerly a bar, it has been totally stripped, renovated, and recreated as a completely new and classic space. The venue has two floors, tremendously plush, comfortable, and inviting appointments including extensive seating, sumptuous marble bars, hardwood floors, a fireplace, and state of the art sound and lighting.

We have proudly assembled a fun and friendly group of skilled, mature, and professional people who will make every experience at Number Nine pleasant, attitude free, and memorable for all the right reasons. While we offer an extensive menu of classic cocktails, we also provide an appetizing array of flavoring ingredients, syrups, and fresh fruit that will allow you to create your own drink to your own taste (or allow us to do it for you.)

We have planned and organized Number Nine for your convenience:

* We open every day at 5pm.
* Happy Hour is from 5-9pm every day.
* All drinks are 2 for 1 during Happy Hour.
* We do not charge admission.
* We do not have a dress code.
* We do not have different “theme nights” or rotating drink specials that you need to keep track of.
