Horse’s Ass Award Nominee – 1400 Block of 11th St, NW

In our recent discussion of the corner of 11th and Rhode Island Ave, NW many readers have noted how this section of 11th street has tons of potential. Many buildings have already been fixed up. So it always pains me when I pass the one above. Hopefully it will catch the wave of 11th Street resurgence and get fixed up soon.

  • That place was an abandoned wreck back in 2000 when I moved to Shaw. My expectations that it will all of a sudden become something is low.

Gets a building permit every two years like clockwork. Just enough to squirm through that gaping loophole.

I take it this comment is sarcasm?

Maybe there’s a new owner in the picture then. If you’re using the loophole, taking it to the Board is overkill.

Re: the liquor store at 11th and Rhode Island…the day after your post the orange graffiti was gone PoP…unfortunately walking by yesterday (only 2 days later) the building has ENORMOUS graffiti all over it again…it must have taken hours to do! Don’t know how no one ever sees it to call it in…crazy. MOE is a loser.

Reminds me of the long-boarded up DHA property on the 800 block of Park Rd., NW – another horse’s ass candidate:

It shouldn’t upset anyone more than the other eyesores on that block: the dollar store, Chinese take out, the old blue building and the public housing south of this. Sigh. Change will come … hopefully
