“Dear PoPville,

The idea of the summit is to get restaurant owners, residents, and members of relevant government agencies together to discus the problem and how restaurants can minimize the rat infestations by disposing of their trash and grease properly—a main cause of the seemingly increased number of rats. (Another cause, according to ANC Commissioner John Fanning, is that rats once lived more discreetly in abandoned lots on the street. Now that most those lots have been developed, those rats have scattered to more populated areas.)”

The reader includes this link from ANC2F:

“Our neighborhood is more vibrant than ever with population growth and many new businesses attracting visitors and tourists. Logan Circle is a tremendous success story, but with progress comes new problems. One that we’re increasingly hearing about is the rodent population.

To proactively and collaboratively address this issue, the ANC 2F Alcohol Policy Committee invites you to attend the Rodent & Sanitation Education, Training and Awareness Summit on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00 p.m. at the Washington Plaza Hotel (10 Thomas Cir NW).

Representatives from the DC Department of Health, Department of Public Works, and Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) will make presentations, followed by a Q&A and action planning session. The tentative agenda is below:

DOH Public Service DVD – 8 min
Community Hygiene Program Overview – DOH 15 min
Trash Compactors – 5 min
DPW SWEEP/Enforcement – 10 minutes
ABRA Complaint Process – 5 minutes
Q&A/Action Planning – 45 minutes”

11th and P St, NW

Thanks to a couple of readers for sending word (and photos.) One reader writes:

“I live at 11th and P and there is an abandoned lot and abandoned building (well, it’s not abandoned when homeless people and drug dealers are there, technically!) that for years have been in the permitting process.

Well, permits are up on both places for new condos coming.”

On a side note – I heard some scuttlebutt recently that a Mexican restaurant is coming soon somewhere around 11th and P St, NW as well. Updates on all development as construction progresses.

A few weeks ago we noted that the Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar coming to the former BodySmith Gym space next to Miss Pixie’s was looking awesome. And now it’s ready to open. The place looks incredible. I stopped by yesterday while staff was being trained and was told they would quietly open up one day this week.

They’ve added an incredible new outdoor dining area:
