“Dear PoPville,

I don’t know who you all were, but thank you. I fell off my bike on H St this morning after [Sunday] getting a tire caught in the tracks and was totally disoriented and scared when all I could see was blood dripping from my head. Thank you in particular to the man who put pressure on the cut until the ambulance arrived. I’m so impressed by and thankful for my DC community that doesn’t hesitate to jump in and help. I wish I could repay you all.

sandwiches

From an email:

Come help Old City CrossFit on HSt NE DC with it’s 1st ever AMSAP Challenge this Veteran’s Day, Nov 11th at 10:30 am! “What’s an AMSAP?” Great question! It means “As Many Sandwiches As Possible.” And we’ll be making these sandwiches in support of the Central Union Mission in DC.

Central Union Mission is a homeless shelter that provides services to people in need, including delicious meals. That’s where Old City and the AMSAP Challenge comes in. Old City is hosting an event on Veteran’s Day (Friday, Nov 11th) from 10:30 – 12. We have a goal of making 200 sandwiches (or more!?), and we need you to help us reach that goal!

There are two ways you can help:

1) Volunteer to provide supplies. Sign up here: http://bit.ly/2dZUD24

2) Volunteer your time! Just show up at the gym on Nov 11th at 10:30 and get ready to get your sandwich on!

You can find more information and sign up to volunteer for the event here:

https://www.facebook.com/events/930858977019760/

Please take a look at the Facebook event page and help out where you can. We really appreciate and support you might be able to offer!”

Thanks much,

Sean

The placard says:

“New restaurant with 50 seats and a Total Occupancy Load of 50. Serving Mexican cuisine. Restaurant also has a Sidewalk Café with 48 seats.”

This is the former former ‘The Spot’ deli (and Grace Deli before that) – what’s the early word on Taqueria Rosticeria Fresca who opened up back in January?

Their Facebook page says:

“Original taste of Mexico with an addition of Peruvian style chicken”

Check out their menu after the jump. (more…)

I love when the sidewalks open back up. Also reveals where the new Wydown Coffee Bar will be located at 600 H Street, NE, right across the street from the new Starbucks. The liquor license placard says:

“A coffee shop with a small bakery serving coffee, espresso, baked goods, juices and healthy snacks. In the afternoon and evenings, wine and beer will be served with desserts. Total Occupancy Load: 64. Total number of seats: 27. Total Occupancy Load of Summer Garden: 16.”

And you can taste the Whole Foods coming:

If you passed out or moved away in 2012 and woke up today, you’d find the whole scene pretty surreal:

tickets

“Dear PoPville,

I live a block off of H Street NE. The city has been towing cars either blocking street car tracks or parked in street sweeping spots to our block and leaving them here. And it seems people can’t find their cars because weeks later and they are still here! Also, a few blocks away at my kids’ school, there is a car that was towed from one tow zone to another and now has a stack of tickets on the windshield. I’m certain that these people aren’t intentionally leaving their cars for weeks at a time… including with an open window in the rain. I’m pretty sure this happened to a couple in the spring. They reported the car stolen only to find out it was towed.”
