Horace & Dickie’s is located at 809 12th St. NE (just off H Street). Every time I walk by there are people coming in and out which I think is a very good sign. I think they may have come up when we discussed the best crab cakes in town.

I was psyched to see they have a Web site which says:

“Inspired by the everyday family cooking that we grew up with. We have been in business for more than 20 yrs and this is the one and only location. You’ll feel at home while savoring a great meal. Experience our Fish that has made us famous as featured on Man vs. Food on the Travel Channel. Our famous fried chicken and handmade crab cakes will also keep you coming back! . Our friendly atmosphere and great food is surely what makes us one of the most popular places to eat in Washington D.C.”

You can see their menu here.

What’s the must order item?

Think this 3 bed/2 bath will go for $629,000?

The Craigslist ad says:

“This boutique-like 2 story 1 bedroom 1 bathroom Capitol Hill Row home is located one block from Maryland Avenue NE and 1.5 blocks from the H Street Entertainment district and is perfect for the professional working on/near Capitol Hill (15 minute walk) who enjoys the conveniences of work and play nearby!

The row home is historic in architecture with wooden and carpeted floors, a combination of exposed brick walls and an operating wood fireplace. Wood floors recently refinished, look like new! Newly bricked back patio, great area to enjoy an afternoon in the sun or an outdoor BBQ. Patio furniture included.

The large upstairs bedroom has an open floor plan with a skylight which allows easy access and a large amount of sunlight to filter in.

The house is pet friendly (we had a dog there ourselves!). The rent includes an ADT security system which is monitored 24/7 by ADT. Other utilities are extra.

The H Street Entertainment District is less than two blocks away and features unique restaurants and other entertainment venues, perfect for young professionals!”

Personally I think saying “H Street Entertainment District” is a bit too formal… What do you guys think – does $2045 sound reasonable for this 1 bed row house?

Coming back from New York Sunday morning I was saddened to hear the news that the Argonaut, 1433 H Street, NE, had experienced a fairly severe fire. The owners write on The Argonaut’s blog:

* Nobody was in The Argonaut at the time, and nobody got hurt.

* We don’t know who called 911 this morning, but whoever you are, thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. Because of your call, the fire department was able to get there before the damage (which is very extensive, but pretty much only in the kitchen and bar area) was able to spread.

* Most of you may not know this, but our kitchen used to be an alley. Which means that the wall separating the kitchen and the bar is an “outside wall” and is several layers of brick. We are very thankful for that brick wall – it helped contain the fire.

* And thanks so much to the DC Fire Department. Seeing the kitchen, it really hit home about what they actually have to do. I cannot imagine having to walk inside what I can only imagine was an inferno…

* And thanks to Nancy & Graham, and Bill, Liz, Mika & Eila for watching Ara for the first part of the day. Thankfully, I had the good sense not to bring my toddler to a fire and they were ready, willing, and able to help! (And thanks to everybody else who offered to watch her…)

You can see photos of the damage inside and learn about their next steps here.

“This cute little house went up for sale, right next to Senate Square in the NoMa area. It is the most inexpensive property in the area, but does that make it a good deal?”

What do you guys think – does $395,000 sound reasonable for this 2 bed/1bath?

One of the most anticipated new bars has opened its doors today at 1355 H Street, NE. We looked at some preview photos here back in May. It’s going to be a bit smashed this weekend – from an email:

“Just to let everyone know, we are booked solid for the USA game on Saturday & the Germany Game on Sunday from 1 to 4pm.
