According to Capital Bop:

This just in: Tony Puesan has reportedly said that he will reopen HR-57 next week, on Mar. 16, after approximately two months of delay.

The hold-up was due to an unanticipatedly slow process of procuring a liquor license.

HR 57’s new location is 816 H St. NE. I stand by my original reaction when we first heard the news in Nov. 10 – Devastating News for Logan Circle/Phenomenal News for H St, NE .

The sight below now makes me weep every time I pass it:

From MPD listserv:

“Does anyone have any information on the gunshots and police activity that happened around 6pm, Thursday (2/24) evening on the 900 block of 5th St. NE? We called in the gunshots, but while we were still describing the incident to the dispatch, 3 police officers with guns drawn approached a house on the block. Any info at all would be helpful. Thanks much.”

Captain Mike Gottert responds:

“Units responded to the 900 block of 5th St NE in response to multiple calls for the sound of gunshots. Once on the scene, a resident of the block reported his house had been struck by several rounds, there were no injuries. The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has any information regarding this incident please contact me offline.”

There’s been a lot of anticipation for the opening of the Queen Vic which will be opening soon at 1206 H St, NE.  Thanks to executive chef Adam Stein for sharing the sample menus (which, remember, may be tweaked a bit).  He also adds:

“In addition there will be about 4 daily specials, which is where the FUN stuff will be, things like beef heart, deviled kidneys, braised tongue, sweetbreads and a whole host of other items will reside.”

Stay tuned for an update when an opening date is announced.

“Dear PoP,

The pop up at 9th and I NE that you featured a week or two ago got messed up by the winds. Last night the block was cordoned off as fire and others tried to figure out what to do. Then later contractors were there putting up bracing, but it looks like the structure is in big trouble.”

That was serious wind. Do you think they have to start over from scratch or can this be salvaged?

Ed. Note: Despite our conversation going on down below – I also love H St, NE and much of its positive development. I don’t think it is necessary to malign one neighborhood just because you may like another better. The beauty of DC (which admittedly took me a few years to realize) is the uniqueness and contrast of all its neighborhoods. The DC that is the sum of its neighborhoods is far greater than one neighborhood alone. Christ, I sound like a politician and that is not my intention. I’m just saying it is quite possible – in fact quite natural – for one to love both Columbia Heights and H St, NE. I may blow some people’s minds but I truly and genuinely love Cleveland Park as well. Screw it – I’ll say it loud – I love Georgetown too.

On to the good stuff – Boundary Road Restaurant (pictured above), according to a recent liquor license application, is coming to 414 H Street, NE. It will be a:

“Neighborhood style American fare menu, full service restaurant and bar with a seating capacity for 65 patrons. Total occupancy load of 80. Entertainment will consist of occasional live music or DJ.”

And in less pleasant news I was saddened to see its next door neighbor’s building was for sale lease. As previously noted, perhaps the greatest name for a lawyer ever – Phyllis J. Outlaw:
