UPDATE:
“Thanks to PoPville, when we saw a grey parrot on our front steps this morning, we knew exactly who she was and who to contact. Happy to report the parrot and owner have been reunited!”
From OP:
“hey all! Cleo is back home!!! so unbelievably relieved. She was sitting on 816 i’s front porch fence and I am at 802 i! just a spit’s away, rather than miles away, wow! It truly required the community’s eyes and ears to get Cleo back home safe and sound. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for all of your efforts!
Oh yes, im gonna start taking down all those rain-soaked flyers. To help speed up the re-beautification of our neighborhood, if theres one in front of your home, you might just as well go ahead and remove it”
Cheers and happy warm December!”
A reader passes on this sad tale – please keep your eyes peeled!
“Cleo suddenly flew away at midnight and I cannot find her. She flew onto my head and then off when I opened the back door, flew towards the direction of 7th st between I and K. I live at 800 [block] i [Street, NE].
I am deaf and unable to hear her vocalizations. I am told she only makes coughing or microwave beep sounds. She actually uses sign language to communicate with me. She loves grapes and macaroni. She’s shy but would most likely come to someone for help. Please let me know, I will be thankful for any tips or leads! Text me at 202 351 9830 or call me (via relay) 202 540 8595.“

From DDOT:
“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) today announced the start of Pre-Revenue Operations (PRO) for DC Streetcar as DDOT prepares the system for safety certification to carry passengers. PRO, which simulates service along the corridor without passengers, is anticipated to begin Wednesday, December 16 along H Street NE and Benning Road NE.
Residents accustomed to the intermittent operation of streetcars during the run up to PRO will see a noticeable increase in activity along the corridor for the next three weeks. The full complement of streetcars will operate simulating normal service from early morning to late night. DDOT will also increase the distribution of safety information to pedestrians, motorists, and businesses along H Street NE and Benning Road NE to ensure the public is adequately informed about this increase in operations. The PRO will run for at least three weeks and will be extended as needed. This is the second time that streetcar has initiated PRO. (more…)

And from the Mayor’s Office:
“There have been reports in the last days about rodent control on H Street NE.
It is true that the confluence of development and large scale construction, more and more restaurants and food establishments, the proximity of residents to businesses and the mild November and December this year has made rodent control a challenge along the H Street corridor. Unabated vacant properties and lots can also contribute to this issue.
Mayor Bowser is well aware of the challenges we face on H Street and has directed the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS) to lead a multi-agency approach to address the issue. Department of Health (DOH) has dedicated inspectors and code enforcers in this area that monitor activity 4/5 days per week. They regularly abate on public property as well as work with residents and business when issues arise on private property. DOH was out on increased inspections as recently as yesterday and met with business owners to abate this issue. Department of Regulatory Affairs (DCRA), the Mayor’s Office along and local ANC Commissioners also recently did a “Vacant Property Walk” down H Street to identify vacant and distressed properties. This was not only for rodent control but occupied properties are generally more taken care of and can privately contact rodent and pest control.
This rodent issue was reported last night and this morning on news channels in DC – A few clarifying points: (more…)
