A reader sends a link for a sale of “outstanding architectural items including historical stained glass windows, chandeliers, door and window frames, artwork” at Bistro Francais. I obviously thought they were closing but the general manager tells me:
“We are not closing we lost the lease on 3128 M street but the restaurant still open on 3124 M street.”
For those not familiar with Bistro Francais:

“The newest addition to M Street in Georgetown is Maxime – Steak Frites and Mussel Bar. Maxime will fill a much needed niche in Georgetown as one of the only casual French steakhouses and mussel bars, with an emphasis on dining simplicity—courtesy of restaurateurs Ben Kirane, Moe Idrissi, and Joe Idrissi, who also bring you Bodega and Thunder Burger. The name Maxime, often associated with a variety of French personalities, was actually chosen after its Latin translation for “special.”
Maxime will open Thursday March 26th and will occupy the former Guards space, located at 2915 M Street. Maxime looks forward to providing the neighborhood with an authentic brasserie atmosphere complete with French hors d’oeuvres – such as quiche, charcuterie and fromage alongside classic french onion soup, rustic bread, and a Belgian inspired list of specialty beers and cocktails.
The highlight of the menu created by Executive Corporate Chef Ryan Fichter will be the Steak Frites. This Maxime signature meal will be served with a special Maxime secret sauce, salad, frites, and a baguette breadbasket. UPDATE from DDOT:
“The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) has instituted single-lane closures in each direction northbound and southbound on Rock Creek Parkway beginning at P Street, NW, because of recently fallen debris from the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge overpass today, March 24.
During the evening rush, starting at 4 pm, two lanes will be maintained northbound until 6:30 pm. Following the rush hour, DDOT will reinstitute single-lane closures until later in the evening.
This area was closed earlier this morning due to falling debris from the Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge. DDOT’s engineers are continuing to inspect the bridge and take corrective actions as needed.
This closure will lead to moderate-to-heavy delays in the traffic in this area.
DDOT encourages all commuters to stay alert as they travel through this corridor.”

“Did you see RCP was a hot mess this morning? Bricks fell from the underside of the P St bridge. Right 2 lanes were closed at 8:15 when I passed through. Scary infrastructure issues this week!”

“I was driving south on Rock Creek Parkway this morning, and the police had the two right lanes closed under the bridge that connects Georgetown to West End. When I drove by, there were a couple guys on the phone looking at the bottom of the bridge, which appears to have lost some concrete and was showing exposed rebar.”

This follows word of the still unconfirmed scuttlebutt that a SoulCycle could be coming to Chinatown/Mt.Vernon Square too. SoulCycle‘s DC location opened at 2301 M Street, NW in July.

“SoulCycle, the country’s premier full-body indoor cycling studio, will open in Georgetown late Summer, 2015. Adding to its current D.C. and Bethesda locations, SoulCycle Georgetown will mark the brand’s third D.C. area studio.
SoulCycle Georgetown will feature a 56-bike studio, home to the signature SoulCycle workout, and an expansive SoulCycle lifestyle boutique, selling SoulCycle’s original clothing collection. SoulCycle Georgetown will be located at 1042 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, Washington, D.C. 20007.
SoulCycle has plans to open two additional studios in the D.C. area in 2015. SoulCycle classes in the D.C. area cost $30.”

“Passed by Georgetown store and windows covered over. Website listed hours each day as CLOSED.”
A call to the store only has an audio recording saying that the store is “temporarily closed” with no reason given. Updates when more info is known.
Update: As commenters have noted the store is closed due to some damage from the recent Steve Madden fire. I’m told they are taking this opportunity to renovate the store.
