“Zeke’s Coffee will officially open its second DC location next week. The store is located at 731 15th Street NW [formerly Pleasant Pops], just south of McPherson Square. Zeke’s will be celebrating the grand opening of its new location with free hot coffee and cold brew on September 12.

The downtown DC shop will feature a full menu of coffee drinks, including pour overs and press pot options, with food by Panorama Bakery, Republic Kolache, Paisley Fig and Broojies & Bier. (more…)

“They are wonderful. Lots of filling, flaky crust, juicy and hot. I prefer the chicken one. Their coffee is also very good. They’ve twice had their window broken, most recently in a burglary. This small, independent shop could use all the business they can get.”

Nando’s on 18th Street to briefly close in September (3rd to 12th) for a “Sprucing Up” then in December to “completely re-imagine the space”

“About 10 years ago, we opened our second restaurant in the U.S., in a stately and historic building off Dupont Circle. [Ed. Note: Remember when this was a hardware store?!?] Now the time has come for us to give it some love!

From September 3rd to September 12th, Nando’s Dupont location (1210 18th Street, NW) will be closed, so we can make some important repairs as part of a two-stage renovation.

“$1.7 Million Grant for Downtown Day Services Center to Support Individuals Experiencing Homelessness”

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Mayor Bowser today announced a $1.7 million grant to build a Downtown Day Services Center that will provide critical services to individuals experiencing homelessness. The program will be housed in the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church and managed by the DowntownDC Business Improvement District (BID), with social services provided by Pathways to Housing DC (Pathways), District agencies, and other key partners.

“As we continue our work to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring, the Downtown Day Services Center will enable us to reach more individuals and get more residents connected to the resources and supports they need to stay safe and secure permanent housing,” said Mayor Bowser. “This center is one more way we can provide individuals experiencing homelessness with the respite and resources they need and deserve.”

The center will open prior to the start of 2018-2019 hypothermia season which begins on November 1, 2018 and will serve at least 100 clients per day. (more…)
