National Law Enforcement Museum Opening October 13th “dedicated to exploring nearly every facet of American law enforcement”

“The National Law Enforcement Museum at the Motorola Solutions Foundation Building — the nation’s only museum dedicated to exploring nearly every facet of American law enforcement — today highlighted details of some of its exciting, interactive exhibits that will allow visitors to “walk-in-the-shoes” of law enforcement when it opens to the public on Saturday, October 13, 2018 with its Community Day celebration.

The story of American law enforcement is about to be told like never before with entertaining and educational exhibits such as:

• Take the Case:Assume the role of a crime scene investigator, collecting and processing evidence from staged cases while our experts give you a realistic taste of forensic analysis. Witness the art of interrogation, delve into the painstaking world of evidence collection, and see if you have what it takes to crack the case.
• To Serve and Protect:Hear riveting, first-hand accounts from law enforcement officers, victims, and bystanders as they recount real-life events, including the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Air Florida Flight 90 crash, and the Charleston, S.C. church shooting. Visitors will get to explore the more than 18,000 law enforcement agencies in the United States with the Web of Law Enforcement — a large interactive touchscreen that illustrates how these agencies work together to solve crimes.

“What makes our Museum so unique is our collection of more than 21,000 artifacts from every era of American law enforcement. Our visitors will also get a glimpse of what life is like for the more than 900,000 law enforcement officers serving across our country,” said Rebecca Looney, Senior Director of Exhibits and Programs at the National Law Enforcement Museum. “The blend of historical artifacts with modern, interactive exhibitions gives the visitor a total educational and fun experience. These exhibits are just a taste of what visitors can expect to experience inside the Museum.”

The National Law Enforcement Museum opens to the public on Saturday, October 13, 2018 — following a dedication on Thursday, October 11. The Museum is located at Judiciary Square across from the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and is dedicated to expanding and enriching the relationship shared by law enforcement and the community through educational journeys, immersive exhibitions, insightful programs and community partnerships.

“Over the last decade, the National Law Enforcement Museum has worked with dozens of law enforcement experts, historians, academics and community leaders to develop the core of the Museum’s exhibitions and programming to ensure an accurate, unbiased portrayal of American law enforcement,” said David L. Brant, Executive Director of the National Law Enforcement Museum. “We have built a Museum that encourages everyone to learn about, share, and even debate every facet of the profession. This Museum is not just about the men and women of law enforcement, but about the citizens and communities they serve as well.”

As part of this commitment, the Museum will host public events that will delve into conversations of national concern, with programs dedicated to discussing the opioid epidemic, immigration, and community dialogue starting this fall.

“We want to ensure that the Museum’s programming is relevant in reflecting issues facing our nation today,” said Brant. “As much as we want to educate the public on the history of law enforcement, we want to reflect the role law enforcement plays in current events and how we can build strong communities through open conversations.”
