Thanks to John for sending from Momofuku:

“To our Momofuku teams,

I want to start by saying that I hope you and your families are safe. This crisis has been the hardest time in Momofuku’s history, and I’m writing today to share more hard news and to discuss what comes next. As I mentioned in my last note, I started here as an intern straight out of college and never left. Like many of you, I stuck around because of the people who work here. You are the heart of our company, and you deserve a clear explanation of the changes that we’re making, why we’re making them, and what our vision for the future is.

After significant deliberation, we have had to make the extremely difficult decision to permanently close Nishi and CCDC. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to reach out about this article that was posted on 4/23.

On the same day, early Wednesday afternoon, that same man tried to assault me. I reached the Ward 2 office and they asked me to send an email about what happened, which I did on 4/24. Below is the email I sent:

On Wednesday, April 22nd at approximately 1:20 pm, I was finishing up my run on 13th and Massachusetts Ave, headed home to my home at XXXX X St NW.

I was on the southwestern corner of Massachusetts and 13th st, waiting for the pedestrian light to turn on so I could cross the intersection and finish my run. A shirtless man (white pants, dreadlocks, late 20s/early 30s) comes up behind me and is within inches of me. I tell him to back off and get away from me, he’s mumbling something and acting not right upstairs. He doesn’t back off, so I run to the median of Massachusetts Ave. He runs up behind me and tries to get on me. He’s crouching with his arms outstretched and looks like he’s about to either bear hug or grab me, so I yell at him again to back off. He’s mumbling something and at this point, I book it and run as fast as I can, heading northbound back to my home at XXXX X St. I look behind me and see the man is running after me, so I start zig-zagging on 13th street. Thanks to Fin for sending: “Great Wall on 14th street reopened for take out and delivery. Got me some delicious spicy MaPo Tofu last night. They were so happy to see us. We were even happier to see them.”

And thanks to BSmith for sending the above: “lunch today from KOSTAS at Greek Deli – made my day!”

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I have tried ordering from Great Wall Szechuan House twice this weekend and no one is picking up the phone. I know there were reports last month about them possibly closing, but we just ordered maybe 2 weeks ago without a problem. Have you heard anything about whether or not they’re still open?”

Stacie asks: “has anyone checked on Kostas and Greek Deli? Office is in Foggy Bottom, but working from home in NoVa and fretting about not being able to support them right now.”

UPDATE on Greek Deli! “Greek Deli is still open! 11am-2pm for pickup, not sure if they’re doing delivery.” (more…)

Thanks to those who sent from DC Improv:

“From Allyson Jaffe, owner and comedy school principal:

The last two weeks have been a nightmare with the last two days putting the nail in the coffin. Here’s the other side to the quarantine. Today I had to lay off almost my entire staff (50 people). Their worlds have been rocked and lives are forever changed. The DC Improv is closed for who knows how long. I have no idea if my business will be able to weather this storm and reopen. I have had to make some of the most difficult decisions of my life all while trying to keep it together and handle the anxiety of our customers and staff. I have never been so sad in my life. My heart breaks for all of my employees who I cannot help as I try to salvage the business I devoted close to 22 years to. I am grateful to the comedians who performed at the club this past weekend to give just a bit of relief to us during this chaos. I’m a survivor and have been through a lot in my life. I will do whatever I can to try to get through this with the goal of getting my crew back together again as soon as possible. This has been devastating but the one thing I know is that we need comedy more than ever.” (more…)
