Thanks to Andre for sending the listing for Great Wall Szechuan House:
“Great Wall Szechuan House Restaurant has been in existence going on 18 years. Very busy location. No advertising. Art works not included. 2nd floor and 3rd floor can be leased out for income or used as dining area. Owner has health issues.”
Asking price is $300,000.
Washington CityPaper reports the details of the health issues:
“Back in April 2019, Chen was preparing orange chicken when he says a bottle of orange extract with a faulty lid sprayed into his wok, igniting a swirl of flames that burned his face, arms, and chest. Orange extract mostly consists of alcohol, making it extremely flammable. He went to Washington Hospital Center and stayed in the ICU for 10 days, according to Kuang.”
Please note that restaurant remains open and will continue to remain until if/when it is sold. And fans of the great Great Wall can retain a little hope even if a sale goes through as CityPaper also reports “If a buyer takes over the business, Kuang and Chen will consider opening a new restaurant in the future after they regroup.”
Wishing Mr. Chen a strong continued recovery. Great Wall is always prominently mentioned when we discuss best Chinese in town. Updates as appropriate.
