From a press release:

“The Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (Board) suspended Heritage India/The Zanzibar’s liquor license today as the result of an incident that occurred at the establishment on Saturday, Jan. 3 where a patron was stabbed.

The Board found that the establishment—located at 1901 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW—presents an imminent danger to the health and safety of the public. As a result of the Board’s decision, Heritage India/The Zanzibar is prohibited from selling and serving alcoholic beverages. The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) provided the establishment with a formal notice this evening informing them of the suspension.

The Board made its decision after reviewing a thorough investigation conducted by ABRA of the incident. Heritage India/The Zanzibar has remained closed since 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3 under the authority of Metropolitan Police Department Chief Cathy L. Lanier.”

Ed. Note: Heritage India’s former Dupont location was the scene of a shooting on Nov. 27th 2011.
