Dear PoP,

I don’t know the last time that you came into Crestwood, but in the last 6 weeks or so a brand new house has been under construction. For as long as I have lived in the neighborhood (2005), there have been two empty, wooded lots for sale on the right side of Mathewson, as one comes up the hill from Blagden. Well, there now is a new house under construction on one of those lots.

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

At first I thought these were Christmas decorations. Then they started bolting across the street. Then I realized I truly am a city boy because I can’t remember the last time I was so scared…

It’s quite common to see the name of prolific late 19th/early 20th century developer Harry Wardman attached to real estate listings (often incorrectly, I might add). For whatever reason, the names of other, similarly prolific developers and architects are not as familiar. Clearly, the District of Columbia has seen decades of housing booms, each bringing particular styles, which contribute to the character of entire neighborhoods.

Continues after the jump. (more…)

Updated kitchen & baths, sunny & spacious. Convenient location just off of 16th Street. Why buy a condo when you could have a house? and no monthly fee. Freshly painted and ready to move right into.”

Thanks to Michael for the heads up and the photos. This is one of my favorite blocks in the city. While I wish it was a bit closer walking distance to restaurants, I’ll just say it – if I were looking I’d buy this one in a heartbeat. What do you think – $439,000 sound right for this 3 bed/3 bath?
