3418 11th Street, NW

Thanks to Anthony for sending the good word: “I hope to inform the Columbia Heights community that seeing clients entering the new restaurant on 11th St called Ossobuco has opened.”

Their website is still being worked on but presumably we’ll be able to see their menu here. Anyone take an early taste?

14th Street, NW between Kenyon and Irving

A reader reports around 3:25pm:

“There was a loud screech from brakes and then a crash. A white sedan hit at least two other vehicles. When I got to my window, I saw the driver get out and flee the scene. Cops on scene and road closed directly in front of DC USA mall.” (more…)

Frank wrote us at 7:22pm Sunday night: “large police presence on 16th NW between Park and Irving. Not sure what’s going on.”

MPD reports:

“The Third District is currently investigating a stabbing in the 3100 block of 16th Street NW. An adult male has been transported to an area hospital with critical injuries.

Anyone with information is asked to call 202-727-9099″

Update from MPD:

“Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Sunday, November 15, 2020, in the 3100 block of 16th Street, Northwest.

Around 10:30pm in Columbia Heights was definitely fireworks.

And another round later: “Special thanks to the person who just blasted fireworks directly next to my bedroom window at 2am in Columbia Heights”

And in a new one that I’ll add to the list of options comes this report from Alan Henney at 2:20am:

“The EXPLOSIONS heard about 20 minutes ago in University Heights are tires bursting on a carjacked SUV that was just torched at 7th St and Randolph St NE-DC.”

The first reports started coming in around 8:24pm (Wednesday night):

“Just heard 8-10 gunshots in the Columbia heights metro area on 14th”

“There was a few police vehicles and foot patrol with flashlights walking around a couple minutes after it happened”

“once again, shots fired at 14th & Irving.”

We received the first report at 10:09pm last night (Wednesday):

“Seriously, what’s with the explosion sounds (similar to a generator blowing) that we’ve heard several times in Fort Totten? The power has gone out several times again.”

“Same! We are without power near Fort Totten metro – two or three huge booms tonight. Same thing earlier this morning, but luckily power just flickered then.”

“The loud bangs are continuing. In the past the loud bangs came first, then we lost power. Tonight I only heard the bangs after we lost power. Intermittent sirens somewhere nearby.”

“It’s a transformer or some power line on 12th between Allison and Buchanen, it’s been exploding every couple days. Pepco was working on it earlier today after it happened, but just happened again minutes ago” (more…)
