Located between 11th & 13th Streets on Kenyon St. NW

I think this is going to be a really good time. I’d like to highlight one event though. At 1:45-2:00 There is the Columbia Heights Cupcake Eating Contest sponsored by Sticky Finger’s Bakery and I’ve been told Council Member Jim Graham will be a participant!

Bloombars is also having a fundraiser Sat. night:

“To Benefit Haitian Hurricane Victims”

Start Time: Saturday, October 4 at 8:00pm
End Time: Sunday, October 5 at 1:00am
Where: Bloombars on 11th Street just north of Wonderland

From a reader:

“I know that between here, and the Columbia Heights News forum a lot of people have asked what’s going on with Royal Blue – the supposed to be Mediterranean place next to The Heights on 14th Street in Columbia Heights. I was surprised that no one seems to have mentioned that the build out of the space has commenced full steam this week, with interior walls all framed, and ready for drywall.”

From a reader:

“I stopped by an open doorway yesterday of an upcoming hispanic bakery on 14th between perry and parkwood, called Sweet Treats. 6 owners or so were there, planning things and testing some bread, and they gave me a warm loaf for free. they said they expect to open in two or three weeks, and will open outdoor seating next spring/summer.”

I also walked by and they were giving away free pieces of cake.

In addition to Red Derby and the other places mentioned last week, Red Rocks (11th and Park) is also hosting a party.

RedRocks is planning on hosting debate watching parties on 10/2, 10/7, and 10/15.

Hmm, I received the dates in an email but I assume they are hosting a party tonight as well. I guess it’ll be moot if McCain doesn’t show up tomorrow…

Thanks to a reader for alerting me to the dozens of Found Rabbit signs in Columbia Heights. It’s nice that someone would go to all the trouble after finding a pet. It’d be weird, though, if it was a wild rabbit…

Did anyone check it out? I can’t believe I missed it! Photos and the following summary from “loveitmadly”:

“This past Tuesday evening D.C.’s own Paul Alexander, a.k.a. Fender Splendor hosted the first ever All-City Air Guitar Competition at The Wonderland Ballroom in Columbia Heights.

Air guitar veterans, novices and wildcards alike took the small stage before a packed house for a night of flips, thrusts, windmills and good ol’ fashioned face melting.

Baltimore’s Lance Karsten (a.k.a. The Shred) walked away the winner and Tim Granlund (a.k.a. The Six String General) may or may not be getting the lay of his life after shoving his tongue down the throat of a very cute blonde in the middle of his final round performance. The General took second place, with Kolb Ettenger (a.k.a. Vlad D.M. Wailer) placing third.”
