A reader spots this ad on Craigslist:

“$37 / 2645ft²

Good restaurant location all built out with full kitchen & fixtures & equipment & seating for 75 persons. Located on Park Road side of DC USA Shopping Complex near entrance to DC USA Parking Garage. Perfect for pizza, bbq, Indian, or over stuffed sandwich concepts.”

I’m rooting for a good Indian place.

Dear PoPville,

Last night around 1:40 AM my roommates heard several gunshots outside of our house on the corner of Columbia and Sherman in Columbia Heights. One of them called the police and 9 police cars, 1 ambulance, and a fire truck were there within a few minutes. They blocked off Sherman to cut off a bunch of people trying to flee the scene. Probably had trouble getting away because of all of the construction.

We haven’t had any shootings on our corner since about a year and a half ago and haven’t heard anything else yet.

Another reader writes that he hears it was a result of “a beef with another crew on Georgia Ave.”

@DCPoliceDept tweeted:

“3D Shooting-2900 Sherman Ave NW.1st Adult male shot in chest, 2nd adult male shot in arm, both conscious & breathing/ No lookout”

From MPD:

“At approximately 1:40 am, Third District units were called to the 2900 block of Sherman Avenue NW for sounds of gunshots. Officers found 2 adult males suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds. Anyone with information relating to this event is encouraged to call (202)727-9099.”

Dear PoPville,

Maybe it’s because the customer service got so many complaints or there were too many kids hanging out/chatting with the staff….

Also note “Sorry for the convenience” – that’s awesome.

DC USA on Irving Street, NW between Panera and Panda Express

11th and Monroe St, NW

It’s been almost a year since we talked about the new Tryst/Diner spot coming to 11th Street, NW (between Park and Monroe) in Columbia Heights. I am very excited to share some good news – they are opening in mid/late September!

I was also lucky enough to get a tour of the 7000 square foot space.

As you can see there was still some work going on but you can get an idea of how the space will flow. The main entrance will be through the middle of the building on the 11th Street side and you’ll enter into the Tryst-like part of the space.

Here you’ll be able to get coffee/pastries etc. and you’ll also be able to make to go orders.

If you turn to the left (north) you’ll enter the Diner-like space which features more seating and a wrap-around bar. Remember the space will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – which means breakfast all day!

As those who have walked by know – the entire length of the building is set with big bay windows that will open up.

You’ll also notice incredible tin ceilings throughout the space.

So enter in the center to the Tryst-like area, turn left to the Diner-like space – and if your turn right from the main entrance you will enter another large bar space.

This bar area features exposed brick:

And more great tin ceilings:

While there will be three distinct features, coffee, dining and bar – I’m told that each space will flow into the other and you can order whatever you’d like anywhere you are seated. There are many more details coming soon – but hopefully this will give you a taste of what’s to come. Oh yeah – the name is coming soon. Can’t wait for September!

This rental is located at 1435 Girard Street, NW:

The listing says:

This 2 bed/1 bath is going for $2,000/Mo (the 2nd is going for $2,200/Mo.)

3232 11th St, NW

Back in April 2012 we noted Room 11 was getting closer to their expansion in Columbia Heights. I stopped by and took a peek at the expanded space on Sunday and there has been serious progress made. One of the owners I spoke with said they were shooting for a Sept./Oct. opening of the expanded space.

And following the news of the explosion of outdoor cafe seating downtown, comes word that Room 11 is also hoping to add more outdoor seats in front of their expanded space in the old Jeans n Things at 3232 11th St, NW. Great news for those who enjoy drinking/dining outside.
