“Dear PoPville,
I thought you might be interested to know that the subject of one of your Good Deal or Not? columns– 1023 Otis Place in Columbia Heights — closed for $176,000 over asking (list price: $455,000; close price: $631,000), all cash buyer. This must be a record for the neighborhood. I know that the place received 23 offers (in less than three days) so I imagine there will be a lot of buzz about this price for a pre-renovated house in Columbia Heights.”

Thanks to a couple of readers for sending photos. The fire was Sat. around 6:30pm:
“Fire on 13th between Columbia and Harvard. Firefighters on the scene quickly and looks like everyone is OK.”
@IAFF36 tweeted:
“Update 2912 13th St NW Engine 4 reporting fire on the 3rd floor is extinguished still checking for extension”

Earlier in the week a reader asked what’s happening with CCs liquor store on 14th and Monroe in Columbia Heights? Thanks to @Tuck1220 who writes:
“CC’s liquor is back. Mr. Kim was sick, but said he is doing OK now.”

“Dear PoPville,
I know you guys wrote about the problems with the Tivoli Square Giant – but I’m unhappy to report that they are back again. So far this week they are installing a new checkout system, that will become standard at all Giant’s. This system, which is designed for smaller receipts to be printed, was called “slower” by the 2 cashiers i’ve visited this week, and clearly has a great number of flaws as well. Most importantly, Giant either no longer accepts phone numbers as a replacement for physical bonus cards, (as one cashier told me) or is forcing everybody to re-register their numbers as myself, and the 5 people in line with me all were told by the cashier that the system “didn’t recognize the number” which mean we didn’t have numbers because the new system was fool-proof.
All in all, my last two trips to Giant have featured 45 minute waits at the checkout and non functioning, “new and improved systems”
I don’t understand why, after fighting so hard to regain the trust of the community, Giant is letting Trivoli be the guinea pig for a system that clearly isn’t ready for prime time. Do you have any more information on what the changes are and why?”

Urban Bespoke has moved into the former Black-Eyed Susie space at the corner of 14th and Meridian Pl, NW.

Thanks to a couple of reader for sending. These are two former row houses on 11th Street, NW just south of Park Road near El Chucho.
Probably a bit too early judge but it looks like it’s got potential to look pretty good. Updates as construction progresses.
