It’s the Russians, No It’s the North Koreans!! No, it’s our own imaging balloon. Whew.

Yesterday afternoon near Metro Center Courtenay spotted “this strange balloon floating over DC.”

Be not alarmed and for God’s sake somebody please tell POTUS, this is simply our friends from Air Photos Live balloon who seem to be spotted every year or so. You can see a closeup shot from a previous sighting here.

Our first sighting was back in October 2009. Last year we learned “The balloon was launched by Digital Design and Imaging Inc. to take aerial photos of the District’s skyline as part of the joint Height Master Plan the DC Office of Planning and the National Capital Planning Commission are conducting in response to a Congressional request.”

Update: Molly confirms “Yep, spotted off Thomas Circle.”

After 15 Years RFD Closes in Chinatown

Yesterday we were stunned by the seemingly sudden closures of L’Enfant Cafe, Irish Whiskey and the 1st floor of Policy. The jaw dropping continues today.

Rachel reports:

“RFD closes suddenly as well. None of the staff seems to have been notified in advance.”

Scuttlebutt: Another DC Wawa will be heading to Chinatown!

When it rains scuttlebutt it pours scuttlebutt! Another source with an incredibly high percentage of being right tells me that one of DC’s Wawa is coming to the space between Fado and Starbucks in Chinatown. S/He also confirms that one is coming to the former Tortilla Coast space in Logan Circle. They will join the one coming to 19th Street in the former City Sports space. And I got one more for ya too – STAY TUNED.

Looks Like Smoke coming out of FBI HQ

Sara reports just after 12pm: “Smoke at the FBI building! My colleague joked, “maybe this means they picked a new director.”
