While we’re waiting for the permanent Union Station location, looks like we’re getting closer to the Penn Quarter pop up in the former American Apparel space on F Street. Thanks to Jeremy for sending a shot of the new signage yesterday.

Update from the Washington Post (from a “statement from Tim Whitlock, senior vice president of operations and chief operating officer of the Oceanaire”):
“In response to recent feedback, we have chosen to remove this surcharge effective immediately and will explore more traditional means to address the industry’s rising costs, such as raising menu prices.”

Yesterday afternoon near Metro Center Courtenay spotted “this strange balloon floating over DC.”
Be not alarmed and for God’s sake somebody please tell POTUS, this is simply our friends from Air Photos Live balloon who seem to be spotted every year or so. You can see a closeup shot from a previous sighting here.
Our first sighting was back in October 2009. Last year we learned “The balloon was launched by Digital Design and Imaging Inc. to take aerial photos of the District’s skyline as part of the joint Height Master Plan the DC Office of Planning and the National Capital Planning Commission are conducting in response to a Congressional request.”
Update: Molly confirms “Yep, spotted off Thomas Circle.”

Chinatown was smelling like sewage this morning. It seems to have permeated Gallery Place to Mt. Vernon.”
Anyone else smell it? Know the origin? Silver-lining – hopefully the rain washed it away!
It’s not yet confirming the Union Station location but I’ll take it!! Washington Business Journal reports:
“The retailer has signed a lease to do a temporary location at 1090 F St. NW in Penn Quarter, which was formerly home to an American Apparel store.”

Yesterday we were stunned by the seemingly sudden closures of L’Enfant Cafe, Irish Whiskey and the 1st floor of Policy. The jaw dropping continues today.
