A few readers report:

“Sign outside Romeo & Juliet says “closed for renovations” and has been up for over a week and the fence around the front courtyard area is gone as well. Heard anything?”

Romeo & Juliet opened up in the former White Tiger space back in 2015. Strangely there is no message on their Facebook page (or Website) regarding a renovation. Anyone else hear what’s up? Closed for renovations? or Closed “for renovations”?

Thanks to Justin for sending this magnificent listing from the one and only Tom Faison via MRIS:

“Five black Suburbans in an urban fairy-tail, Georgetown abandoned by an upscale cabinet, well-healed, found roaming the softer side of the Capitol Dome. Iconic Hill Compound, enclave courtyard, guest quarters, fabled to be stables, Secret Service roost, egos to boost, heads of state visit, members pivot, nothing complicit in private meals, cutting deals, pay for plays stay, right price, overnight.”

In the words of the great Daniel Pinkwater has Faison finally popped his cork, flipped his wig, blown his stack, dropped his stopper, gushed his mush, lost his marbles, and slipped his hawser?

I guess when the photos are this good you could write the description in German and it wouldn’t matter.

More jaw dropping photos here.

For the curious, the 6 bed/3 full bath/2 half baths at 131 11th Street, SE is going for $2,295,000.

From a press release:

“In the spirit of fall weekends, Eastern Market is celebrating a homecoming of its own. Stanton Development and EastBanc, Inc. announced today that Eastern Market’s historic outdoor weekend flea market will return to its original home at The Plaza at the Hine School redevelopment project’s 700 Penn at Eastern Market. Saturday’s Capitol Hill Flea Market and Sunday’s The Flea Market at Eastern Market have signed three-year lease agreements and will once again move to the site of their long tenure this fall.

After two years on the 300 block of 7th Street SE, the flea market will move back to the plaza this year, which it originally occupied before the Hine School demolition. The newly opened C Street and The Plaza were designed to ensure the markets had a long-term home. As construction at 700 Penn at Eastern Market progresses, the street vendors will occupy 50 flea market exhibit spaces along the stone-paved and tree-lined C Street plaza, which now connects 7th and 8th Streets SE. New amenities at the space include Dutch-style flush curbs, decorative iron tree pit grates, outlets in tree boxes for lighting, and discounted parking for vendors. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I live in North Capitol Hill, and was walking my dogs this morning when I came across George Farris. He’s been fighting the city for years over the damage done to his historical house (built in 1862) by the city. His story will ring familiar to many DC residents, an impossible-to-navigate DC bureaucracy that can make our lives miserable. George is elderly, and disabled from his service in the Vietnam War. It kills me that anyone has to deal with this kind of thing, much less someone like him.

The city is threatening to break his door down and he’s chained himself to his front door to prevent it. I think your readers might find his story interesting. It all just breaks my heart.

He has a press release which I’ve attached (see below).”

Ed. Note: WJLA reported an emailed statement from DCRA:

“The Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs has begun the process of securing the site in order to begin the necessary work to stabilize and repair it. We understand this process might be disruptive to the homeowner. But it is important that we make sure the property is safe and restore access to the public alley that serves the businesses and residents.” (more…)
