“Chef Andrew Markert, the fearless leader behind Beuchert’s Saloon, is sending the Capitol Hill restaurant “on vacation for a while” beginning on August 16th and Fight Club will take over on August 19th, serving his off-the-wall but totally on-point sandwiches, snacks and boozy punches. Fight Club will sling Markert’s anything-but-traditional take on classic sandwiches and his personal favorite snacks paired with whimsical punches dreamed up by beverage director Mackenzie Conway. El Piquin Reopens in Eastern Market

“Dear PoPville,

Since I have found innumerable places through your site and comments section over the years, I felt I should give one back. There are a group of guys serving breakfast burritos, tacos, and quesadillas under the name “El Piquin” that have been coming to Eastern Market for about the last five years. They have a restaurant in Essex, MD, but they seem to have no presence whatsoever on yelp, social media, etc. outside of a few shout-outs from Eastern Market itself. They took a long hiatus due to COVID but are now back at it on Sundays and Tuesdays and are better than ever. I have been going religiously for years now because the food is really that good (the hot sauce is other-worldly), and I would really like them to survive. Great group of guys, so I wanted to get the word out, even if that means longer lines for me.”

Safeway will proudly open its striking new Capitol Hill store (at 415 14th Street SE in Washington, D.C.) on Wednesday, August 12 at 6 a.m. The new store, developed by Safeway and Foulger-Pratt, measures 60,236 square feet and serves as the anchor for the mixed-use project called Beckert’s Park, which includes additional retail space and 325 residential units. I’ve tried to join but have been rejected twice because I live two blocks outside of their defined boundaries, but they share posts from families in Chevy Chase and Bethesda.
