Holy smokes. When it rains it pours and today it is pouring pure joy. I don’t have timing on this one but I’m also hearing that that prayers of Brookland have finally been answered and a Trader Joe’s is coming. I don’t know where. Maybe here? I don’t know when but I do know that my Trader Joe’s scuttlebutt accuracy is pretty damned good…

901 Monroe is the vacant lot directly across from the Brookland metro station’s bus loop and, according to old PoPville posts, no progress has been made following demolition over ten years ago. (more…)

Ronnie, the proprietor of Ronnie’s Transmission on Rhode Island Ave NE, DC, recently passed away. A skilled technician and a cornerstone of the neighborhood for decades, Ronnie not only excelled in his small business but also served as a repository of local oral history and a trusted friend to neighbors for decades.

Ronnie’s impact on me and everyone fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him was immense. Working tirelessly in his namesake small business, he was not just a skilled technician underneath his hydraulic lift or inside one of his interior garages; he was a cornerstone of the neighborhood on US Route 1. In his front office, Ronnie thrived professionally and also served as a carrier of local oral history and a trusted friend to the NE D.C. community for decades.

Almost every day, except for his one day off on Sundays, Ronnie would take notice of friends and neighbors passing by. (more…)

“Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District Detectives’ Unit are working to locate a stolen French Bulldog puppy and identify the suspect who took the dog during an armed robbery.

On Saturday, November 26, 2023, at approximately 4:02 p.m., the victim was entering her building when she was approached by a man with a taser who demanded her dog. The victim complied and the man entered a black Nissan with tinted windows and paper tags and fled eastbound on Monroe St NE. (more…)
