Over the years, Wilfredo and the whole Simple team tirelessly supported area families and businesses, DC’s LGBTQ+ community, local music & arts scenes, & more. As they are now faced with financial challenges due to the unexpected closure, I’ve started a GoFundMe to help with the unforeseen expenses.”

Hardware & Blue’s Coffee coming to The Parks at Walter Reed

A combo hardware and coffee shop, with offices above, will be taking over the historic 18,000 SF former nurse’s quarters in Building 12, the building right on Main Drive across from the playground. News of the purchase was announced earlier this fall. Building 12 will be revitalized and transformed into a True Value-branded hardware store that pays homage to its heritage, paired with Blue’s Coffee & Tea Co., a Washington, DC-based Black family-owned coffee and tea cafe. Blue’s Coffee has previously sold their coffee at the farmers market at The Parks. (more…)

“The Metropolitan Police Department announces two suspects were apprehended after shooting at an off-duty MPD captain in Northwest.

On Monday, May 20, 2024, at approximately 12:09 p.m., officers received a call for a shooting in the 5800 block of 7th Street, Northwest. An off-duty MPD captain was driving his personal vehicle to work when he spotted a car driving erratically in front of him. The car stopped, one suspect got out, and shot at the captain’s vehicle.

The captain was injured in the shooting and drove his vehicle to the Fourth District Station for assistance. He was transported to a local hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Despite his injuries, the captain was able to note part of the suspect vehicle’s license plate number, (more…)
