Looking towards 108 Rhode Island Ave, NW
In September 2018 El Camino closed after a four year stay in Bloomingdale (near Boundary Stone.) Well, I got some promising scuttlebutt for fans – I hear it’s reopening in a few weeks!! Word on the street is that there will be a new menu but the name will stay the same and it’ll still be Mexican. STAY TUNED.

Bonkers.
“Dear PoPville,
We would like to get the word out about a recent theft from our property on Rhode Island Ave? A thief, in the middle of the night, stole patio /paver stones right out of the ground of our yard and walked off with them. Not the crime of the century, I know, but enough to get us both very upset. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Like many before me, I have dug deep into the history of the McMillan Reservoir and Sand Filtration Site. It’s clear that the Bloomindale community is unlikely to agree on what is best for the future of the sand filtration site. However, I’m wondering what efforts, if any have been made to open a 4-6 acre portion of the McMillan Filter Plant, currently owned and operated by The Army Corps of Engineers?
This 4-6 acre space (pictured in attached images) is located adjacent to and Southwest of the McMillan Reservoir beginning at the corner of 1st and Bryant Streets NW. This site, which is on the opposite, west side of 1st St NW from the sand filtration site, is the original location of McMillan Park where the McMillan Fountain once stood. The site is currently fenced off, apparently for security reasons. The portion of the security fence along 1st St NW and Bryant ST NW could be removed with no security risk to the remaining areas of the McMillan Filter Plant. A new security fence could be installed on the western side of this 4-6 acre field. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
I know many readers have been following the city-wide conversation about making our streets safer to prevent the kinds of senseless pedestrian and cyclist deaths we’ve been even more attentive to since the tragic deaths of Dave Salovesh and Abdul Seck.
One of the places we have a chance to make some real improvements right now is Bloomingdale. Already this year drivers have killed two pedestrians on North Capitol Street, and residents are nervous it’s only a matter of time before something similar happens on the pedestrian-heavy 1st Street NW. Despite being a residential road, commuting cars cut through and speed through the stop signs to catch the lights at the intersections of 1st and Florida and 1st and Rhode Island. Just last week covered a violent crash right in this area on Tuesday that spilled onto the sidewalk. (more…)

“feels newsworthy given events of the last week that there’s another significant crash just now that ended up on the sidewalk at the corner of Florida / R NW. Not sure what happened but looks like no injuries.” (more…)

Yesterday morning I posted about the prolonged closure of CRISP. In a stroke of coincidence and good fortune Eater got some more details later that afternoon:
“Bloomingdale’s Fried Chicken Place Is Turning Into an Italian Bar With Board Games
Crisp, the Bloomingdale bar and restaurant known for its Nashville hot wings and chicken sandwiches, is scratching its longtime poultry theme. New owners of the two-story property plan to flip it into a new bar called Hopscotch.”
Apropos of nothing, as it is Friday post Mueller and I am dragging, allow me to share one of my favorite tv commercials from my youth, which my friends and I would mimic for hours. (more…)
