OK my friends, we’ve hit mid-December. And mid-December means approximately 1000 ‘best of 2018’ posts. I’m going to take some editorial license and proclaim So’s Your Mom the best thing of 2018. Sure they had a hiccup in 2016. They were still the best then. And many years before that. (more…)

Back in 2013 I asked if AdMo had become an acceptable abbreviation for Adams Morgan. There was a resounding no in the comments. In March of 2018 66% of poll respondents supported using AdMo as an abbreviation. And now it has official branding:

I think the takeaway is that resistance is futile. Also that neighborhood names can only have a two syllable limit. So looks like we got a lot of abbreviating to do. Can any coders out there whip something up right quick where we can type in the neighborhood name and have it spit out a two syllable abbreviation?
And what’s the deal with Lanier Heights LaHeights anyway?

Neighbors did their best to save Metro K. Anyone hear which grocery is taking over the space? Updates as we learn more.
The going away notes are pretty heartbreaking on top of the papered over doors:

The old vacant Footaction sneaker store is back to being the old vacant Footaction sneaker store. STAY TUNED.
The sign was basically a big ad for a phone service. But props to them, it definitely got our attention.

“Dear PoPville,
I don’t know if anyone else was around/saw but by the Adams Morgan McDonald’s about 30 minutes ago [around 1:15pm] a man randomly stripped down naked and started sprinting throughout the intersection of 18th and Columbia. Anyone else see that or used to seeing that? He headed up Calvert St I believe, left all his clothes right at the front door of the McDonalds and didn’t come back.”
Update from MPD:
“MPD received several calls about this individual and eventually located him in the 1500 block of 14th Street NW, where he was detained by MPD officers and transported to an area hospital for evaluation. It is believed that he was in the midst of a mental health crisis or narcotics-related reaction. We thank the community for contacting 911 to alert us of the situation.”
