“Dear PoPville,

On this super hot/humid thursday (9/3) morning I was walking by Tryst on 18th after taking a run and saw a super cute woman sitting & reading at one of the outdoor tables in the corner of the patio (I think she was wearing a Michigan shirt)

I wish I had said something at the time but didn’t! Wanted to put this out there if she noticed a guy walking by (around 9:00am) in orange/pink shorts and a gray T-shirt wearing a mask. If this is you and you did notice me please reach out!! I feel crazy doing this, but it’s COVID so why not!”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

Also our last missed connection at Tryst resulted in two connections sadly they were not the missed one.

“Dear PoPville,

Late morning yesterday (Monday 8/24) I saw a (very cute!) guy sitting outside Tryst bakery on 18th – we shared eye contact for a bit as I walked by. On my way back up 18th a few minutes later, I scanned the Tryst patio and found him already looking at me with a big smile as I walked by. I smiled back but had a mask on and was in a rush. I wish I’d done something, though I don’t even know what that would look like! I’ve been thinking about that quick little exchange today, even though he’s probably married – or just a normal friendly dude and I’ve simply reached the romanticizing-literally-any-human-gesture stage of quarantine. 18th and Willard St, NW

The Washington Post reported:

“Tysean Hoffman, of Alexandria, said the group of marchers numbered about 50 and began to march from Meridian Hill Park (also known as Malcolm X Park) toward the Third District police station and throughout Northwest Washington.

Some marchers lit fireworks, turned over trash cans and may have lit at least one trash can on fire, Hoffman said. But there was no damage to property and the marchers were otherwise peaceful.”

Updates when/if MPD/DC Gov releases more info.

“Dear PoPville,

I’d like to hear thoughts on the Adams Morgan tennis courts on 18th street, home of many interpretations given the lack of guidance around the line system.

Are there 2 lines (one for each court)? And if you arrive to play tennis, do you need to pick one court to wait at and hope you picked the faster line?

Or is there one line for both courts? If there’s just one line, where is the best place for the line to form so that people realize there’s a line already. (more…)

2434 18th Street, NW

Last week we learned that the old Taste of Seoul space (forever the old Meskerem spot to many) was becoming a “Brazilian street food place”. New signage is up revealing the name to be Copacabana. Obviously. I hear they are hoping to open by October but they look pretty close so I’ll be sure to update when we get an exact opening date. STAY TUNED.
