I’ve been getting a number of emails from readers about the sign that has gone up at the old Oya’s Mini Bazaar and African Art space located at 2420 18th St NW. This is the space that I learned will become:

‘a “Tryst” type spot (coffee house, sandwiches, etc…) with low sofas and lots of gathering space. The new owners have already purchased a liquor license. There wasn’t a kitchen previously so they will have to build out a whole new kitchen and remodel the inside so it is likely going to take a number of months before they open up.’

Thanks to all who sent emails.

The flier says:

“This wonderful one bedroom cooperative is located a stone’s throw from the heart of Adams Morgan on one of the quietest streets in the neighborhood. The well-run building sits in front of Pierce Park where you can use a fenced dog park, take a stroll, sit in the sun, or play sports. A quick walk through the park will also take you to Woodley Park metro. The home features a newly renovated kitchen and bathroom. The beautiful kitchen is equipped with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops for cooking and entertaining. The building itself offers an enormous roof deck with patio furniture, tons of plants and small trees, and a 360 degree view of the city perfect for enjoying evening meals or the company of friends. Extra storage comes with the unit and is located in the basement along with laundry facilities.”

You can find more info and photos here.

It’s not too often we look at coops so I’m interested to hear what folks of this owner request. Does $315,000 (monthly fee – $370 includes heat, water, and real estate taxes) sound reasonable for this 1 bedroom?

The Craigslist ad says:

“*Large units in the heart of Adams Morgan
*Walk to shopping and dining
*On-site laundry facilities
*Elevator building”

Anyone familiar with The Calverton building? (The title says 1 bedroom but the text says efficiency so I’m thinking this is likely an efficiency.) Does $1205 plus utilities sound reasonable?

“Dear PoP,

Since we opened our store we’ve noticed that our customers enjoy their wine more when they know something about where and whom it comes from – the walls in our store are covered with maps and photographs of producers, each of whom we know personally. To make it easier to share these stories, maps, and tasting notes, we’ve created a Videos Section on our website, where we’re posting video profiles of wines.

We’ve also created linked QR codes and placed them on the shelves in the store next to the wine. Customers with a smartphone can download the free “QR Scanner” app, then scan and watch the video in store.

We’re really excited to be able to connect our customers with their wine and its winemaker, even from the comfort of home.

We’re having a tasting of some older Burgundies this weekend.”

Inter American Defense Board building looking good at 2600 NW 16th St, NW. It is amazing what a paint job can do. And of course the architecture is pretty bad ass in and of itself.

For the curious – from Wikipedia:

“The Inter-American Defense Board is an international committee of nationally appointed defense officials who develop collaborative approaches on common defense and security issues facing countries in North, Central, and South America. The IADB provides technical advice and services to the Organization of American States (OAS).”

The Gallery Inn is located at 1850 Florida Ave NW. Thanks to a reader for sending in the tip that Gallery Inn had recently hit the market. It’s going for $2,100,000 and the remarks are:

“Profitable Hotel/Inn with 8% CAP Rate, Charming all brick hotel at the busy corner of 19th and Florida in Adams Morgan, just a few short blocks from Dupont Circle and metro. 8 Units, upper floor units feature lofts, Perfect for Owner/Operator or Investor, Existing SBA financing is assumable, Leaseback Possible.”

It seems like lots of bed and breakfasts have been going for sale lately.

The reader thought it would be interesting to ask where people’s favorite Bed & Breakfasts / Inns / Hostels are in DC. We looked at some of your favorite B & Bs back in April ’08. For those who missed that conversation – do you have any favorites for friends and family to stay at while visiting DC?
