“Dear PoPville,

Christ House does good work and if anyone may have some nice warm clothing of any type I am sure that they could use it. They have showers homeless men can used (at certain times) and also get some “new” clean clothes.

The Christ House clothing closet is in dire need of pants (jeans, khakis, corduroy
waist sizes 32 – 38. Please announce in your churches, synagogues, or other places worship, in your work or social clubs, and in your apartment buildings. If you need Christ House to pick up the donations please either e-mail [email protected] or call (202) 328-1100. Do a pants drive for Christ House!!

Thank you!

Thanks to all who emailed (and Ron for sending photos) about the raze permits posted on the 1700 block of Columbia Rd, NW in Adams Morgan.

“I was walking to work and noticed raze notices on a row of old shops in Adams Morgan (probably 5 buildings) on Columbia Rd (by the PNC bank). Do you know what’s going on with these? What’s going to happen to Pho 14 and the Burger King?”

Pho 14 and Burger King are safe. Washington Business Journal reported:

“weighing plans for retail-over residential once the current retail leases expire. Retail tenants include Radio Shack and T-Mobile; previous tenants included the Old City Cafe of Jerusalem and Payless ShoeSource.”

This is across the street from the big hotel coming too.

From MPD:

“On February 7, 2015 PSA 303 Nightlife officers conducted multiple traffic stops for motor vehicle violations on 18th Street in Adams Morgan. During one of the traffic stops, officers recovered a Remington Model 1100 shotgun with eight rounds of ammunition. During a second traffic stop, officers recovered a Ruger P-95 semi-automatic handgun.

Thanks to the careful attention and thorough investigation of the PSA 303 Nightlife Officers, two weapons were taken off of the streets of Washington DC to assist in ensuring the safety of numerous residents and visitors in the Adams Morgan Neighborhood.”

SolidCore opened their first DC location in the former Video King space here back in 2013.

Thanks to a reader for passing on from Solidcore:

“I have some news to share with you today. As you all know, we have been offering limited class times at our ADMO studio in January and now in February. This is due to a dispute between us and our landlord over the noise the studio creates in 6 of the residential units above us, making them unlivable/un-rentable. Because the building is so old and the space is so small, there is nothing that can be done to fully soundproof the space. After lengthy legal negotiations with our LL, we will be closing our current ADMO location on Friday, February 27th. This is extremely bittersweet for us — ADMO was our first location and is in a neighborhood we hold near and dear to our hearts…it is also the neighborhood I live in. While we wish the LL would have been more diligent before we signed our lease, we are choosing to look at this as a little road bump in our long journey to build a special community that helps people become the strongest version of themselves. From MPD:

“On Friday, January 30, 2015, shortly after midnight our victim attempted to enter the 7-11, in the 1700 block of Columbia Rd NW, when two males approached him; preventing him from entering the store.

One suspect brandished a knife and demanded money. A witness called 911 and the suspects fled the scene on foot. Nothing was obtained from the victim and the victim was not injured.

The witness provided a detailed description for both of the suspects involved. Officers immediately converged into the area and they were able to locate the suspects and take them into custody. Both suspects were arrested.

Again, this is another example of officers being on their beat and maintaining professionalism. MPD is determined to apprehend and prosecute those who commit these violent acts. Thank you for your support.”

Thanks to a reader for passing on the sad news:

“The former Localat space – Hans Pedr Kaffe. Done. Spoke with the owner just a few minutes ago. Sign on Door cryptically reads Closed -Thanks for Coming. I happen to be walking by when someone was leaving. She is engaged in the depressing process of cleaning things up and out.”

Hans Pedr Kaffe took over the Locolat space back in March. They will be missed. Hans Pedr follows news of Casa Oaxaca closing in Adams Morgan after today. Hoping to share better Adams Morgan dining news soon.

Last week a reader sent a link to an online auction of their kitchen goods and today from Casa Oaxaca:

“Dear Amigos,

Casa Oaxaca will be opening its doors for the last time on Friday January 30. Thank you for over 7 years of amazing dishes, moments, and memories in Adams Morgan — we could not have done it without your support!

We hope to see your friendly faces during our last week of operations. Food and drink specials will be on the menu from Tuesday, January 27 through Friday, January 30.

Relocation and a brand new concept (with the same authentic flavors of Mexico) are in the works! In the meantime, come enjoy our famous mole sauces and award wining margaritas at our sister restaurants — Guajillo and Don Lencho — in Virginia. We will also be refocusing our efforts on our full catering services. (Call us at 240-586-1102 for more details.)

Hasta luego,
Karen Barroso y Rolando Juarez
